A buddy of mine brought his sunburst Les Paul Custom to see Les Paul in downtown Manhatten a year ago or so and had him sign it with a Sharpie... a *huge* autograph that you can see a mile away. He loves it... I thought it was a nice way to ruin a perfectly nice-looking guitar. I know, right? Imagi...

What we ended up doing on some tracks is mono drums and then tracking the acoustic in stereo about 8 feet in front of the drums. it's a very natural sound with the drums bleeding into the acoustic tracks. Of course, it's not the most pristine acoustic tone ever recorded, but it sounds very realistic...

And Roger knows exactly what he's talking about. He tracked the drums for my album this way and I have gotten more compliments for how "real" the drums sound. Check out the MP3s at www.corinashley.com The drums sound totally righteous- the songs and the singing are completely derivative, but the dru...

Another thing I forgot to mention:Guilds often get overlooked but there are some fantastic Guilds out there, ones from the 70s & 80s, that are handcrafted American made gutars (either Hoboken or Westerly, RI) that you can get for $600- $900. I never have understood why Guild doesn't carry the same r...

I find that one's relationship to one's acoustic guitar is usually a very personal thing. You'll really need to tey out a bunch of acoustic to find one that speaks to you. It's definitely no osmething you should buy online. Gibsons, in particular, are notorious for varying in quality from one guitar...

It's definitely Alan White and some of thsoe fill still blow my mind, but this seems like a good thread to mention that I spent about an hour having coffee with Jim Keltner the other night (and Al Kooper, T Bone Burnett and Jakob Dylan, but i don't want to namedrop) and got a chance to thank him for...

There are plenty of books that can help you with note choice, but it's hard to find a book on how to think like a bass player. That comes from experience and listening in a new way. There are a lot of young caucasians in college who own Parliment records who think they're funky. If you're an experie...

Well, I think it's an interesting observation, but not necessarily completely accurate. Springsteen has huge roots in British Invasion and 60's pop in general. He's often cited a Who concert he saw at 15 as the moemnt when he decided to do what he does. He's a veteran of the late 60's frat rock wars...
