What's your digital clock source? Is everything being clocked individually or are you just using plugins?

You'll do well with a Soundcraft. Probably a used board, so get some deoxit, get under the deck, clean the faders and get tracking!

By the way, the AT3035 is a great little mic for $199. Two of those as room mics for a drumkit would be an affordable option for some. I can't imagine the tube unit would make that much of a difference having heard the Groove Tube GT66 at $499.

The Focusrite Octopre would be a solid contender at $799. You can get an expansion board for it to that allows for a digital lightpipe out. Pretty handy. I haven't heard of the SM, but in that price range, I'll bet it's noisy.
