Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
Right. I should've mentioned before that you can't just look at the freq response, you need to look at the decay time as well. In an untreated room, the decay time will be really long, especially at low frequencies. All that ringing is what causes the peaks/nulls. The only way to shorten the decay t...

Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
He didn't add any extra treatment, he just moved the speakers. Obviously finding the best spot for the speakers/listening position is step one. If someone has a huge null at 80, it's not because there isn't enough 80 in the room, it's because that freq is getting cancelled at the listening position....

Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
???
That's exactly what proper room treatment does.
I don't feel like arguing so I'll just say that going from a 15db null at 80 to half that at 95 is a HUGE improvement and losthighway I hope you did a little celebration dance.

Re: The Truth Hurts - REW and my room...
You need more treatment, not a sub. A sub is only going to make it worse right now. Your problem is almost for sure SBIR from the front wall. Maybe the side walls as well. I could reconfigure the stuff I did on the front corners to include more fluffy pink stuff. If I remember, the way it is framed ...

Hahaha, you have a gift!
Went to the local guitar shop yesterday and bought an MXR Phase 95, which is the phase 90 and phase 45 circuits in one pedal. Dunno how much the phase 45 will get used but the 90 is pure EVH bliss and I'll probably never turn it off.

Re: RIP Chris Garges @cgarges
Yeah, I only went to the one in Tucson in 2007 (i think? maybe 2006), but it was a great time and that's actually where I met Chris for the first time. We became fast friends, which was very easy to do with him. I'm so going to miss the epic, sprawling phone calls. It'd be like this: me: I really du...

Re: RIP Chris Garges @cgarges
Chris and I would talk on the phone for HOURS on end. I can't imagine a better friend, mentor, advisor, or person than Chris Garges. Same. I'm so going to miss my phone ringing at 11pm, seeing it was him, shutting everything down for the night cause I knew I was gonna be on the phone till the reall...

Re: shedshrine build 3.0 - furniture, cats, gear, enlightenment, and yer mom, man
The relative positions and spacing were carefully established. Curvy guitars small.JPG This is top shelf work right here. Really nice. Love the lights on the wurly/synth stand too. I had a ton of really bad hand/arm/shoulder/back problems last year, had to stop playing completely for a couple month...

Re: Low passing drum overheads
Don't think I've ever low-passed overheads. IMO if cymbals are annoying the problems are gonna be around 8-12k, maybe 5k-ish. But not way up high. Best cured with a de-esser, sometimes two. I've certainly HEARD some aggressively low passed drum sounds, seemed to be something of a trend a few years b...

Re: Critique drum sound?
But @morespaceecho it sounds like you’ve done this before. Yeah it's been my default for years now. Gets plenty of ride/floor. I never really liked it in 'conventional' oh position, like right over the kick/snare pointed straight down, but I stumbled upon this position ages ago and stuck with it. G...

Re: Critique drum sound?
Try that 160 over by your wife's right shoulder (assuming she's a righty), aimed at the snare/hat. That's where it's always worked best for me, anyway.

Re: Critique drum sound?
Listening on a laptop I agree it ain't broke. Maybe put back a little of the low mids in the overheads and/or ease up on the 3k on the snare a lil bit. Maybe a lil more overall compression. Tough to say without hearing it in context of the mix, but they sound like drums!
