Re: how to record reverb'd guitar?
if it sounds clean coming out of the amp, the distortion's gotta be somewhere else in your chain (said the master of the obvious...). taking the 1202 out is a good idea...maybe you're hitting the input of the ART pre too hard? if you're using the compressor on that, turn that off as well and see if ...

Re: Tracking at 44.1 better than 48k?
just to cloud the issue a little, regarding sample rate conversion, i've read that all the current SRC algorithms upsample to some super high rate that's a multiple of 44.1 and then downsample. even if the source file is 88.2. now why you wouldn't just divide by 2 i don't know. i'm only bringing thi...

Re: Tracking at 44.1 better than 48k?
The way I understand it, the point is really dynamic range. You will get more from 48k than 44.1, even more from 96k. Question is do you need it. sorry bitdump, this is incorrect. sample rate has nothing to do with dynamic range. bit depth is all about dynamic range, e.g. 16 bit has a 96db dynamic ...

Re: Wisdom Teeth and Narcotics
i got mine taken out about 10 years ago. i couldn't afford to have a real dentist do it, so i had grad students at new england medical do it for 1/3 the price. and they were fine, except one of them fainted at the first sight of blood. hahaha. i was coherent enough to realize that something unusual ...

Re: Pre-recorded drums and playing live
i think it depends on the monitors at the club. if they have a good setup you'll probably be fine just sending a di from the cd player and having the soundperson crank it in the monitors for you. if their setup is kinda dicey, bring an amp so you can use that for some volume on stage. one of my band...

Re: Fuck Berkeley Cops!!!
giving out a ticket for j walking is ridiculous in the first place. $150 is insane. fight! i feel compelled to share a good cop story: a lady friend was walking home alone in a somewhat dicey section of town one night, some sketchy guy started following her. a cop car drove past, went up a block, tu...

i was down at a family get together in maryland and was supposed to fly back to boston at noon. and was then gonna run home, edit some stuff for a few hours, then record my singer for a few, then set up drums and mics to get ready to record all day today. i was stoked. ha. since there was no flying ...

Re: Best headphones for tracking REALLY Loud Guitar Amps STA
inspired by a post elsewhere on this board, i got a pair of the hearing protecters from home depot for about $18 and stuck in a pair of walkman headphones. worked great, lots of isolation from loud amps, and even better, no headphone bleed on quiet vocal tracks.

Re: Strangest Studio Techniques U Ever Used?
I recorded our studio cat "Tracks" eating her dry cat food. I close miked her with an M49 and ran it through a 1073 straight onto 1/2" and printed it pretty hot. When I play it back at half speed it sounds like some kind of gigantic gorilla grinding bones between its teeth. I took one of the snappi...

a dotted eighth is just an eighth note and a half, so....at 120 bpm, a quarter note would be 500ms, an eighth 250, dotted eighth 375.twitchmonitor wrote:
Yeah, I'm retarded, but how do you set the delay for dotted eigth notes? How do you calculate that in ms? let's say the song is 4/4 and the bpm is 120?

Re: Can speaker magnets damage gear ?
keep tapes away from speakers. magnetic tape on big fat magnet=no good! leaving a tape on a speaker for a minute or whatever probably won't kill it, but be wary. mics/rack stuff should all be fine. drives...i dunno...
