Can you imagine? aka: A bus crashes into a recording studio.
This is the local news around these parts. I've never been to this studio, but I've heard really good things about it. World class, all the way. I really really feel for this guy right now.

There is really only one option here - Get a big bottle of red wine (Cabernet will work) Turn your inhibitions down by about 12 db. Pipe Serge Gainsburg in through your kickass monitors. Allow one thing to lead to another. Record it, then overdub it onto the bridge of the song a la "Rocket Queen" b...

16-17 tracks at once to a laptop?
Hey guys. I've got a Motu 828 mkII and I'm waiting for an Alesis AI-3 to add an additional bunch of tracks. In April, I'll be buying a new computer for audio, but until then I'll be recording to an Acer TravelMate 2300 computer. Do you think I'll run into problems with that much audio (24bit/44.1) g...

I spent many months doing live sound for a band with two quiet singers, a very dynamic guitar/bass/keyboard combo and the loudest drummer known to man. We were the opening band on a larger tour, so he had to set up his kit in front of the drum riser - putting him about 5 feet behind the singer. I tr...

Not my auction, but the Buy It Now price is low enough that someone's gotta scoop this up. I'm already in WAY over my head right now... so, I'll let y'all know about it.

Formal education is just one piece of the puzzle. It's a factor, but a small one for me. When I'm deciding who to work with on any level, I look for the "magic". That's the only way I know how to describe it. That magic that lets me feel that this person is a good person to work with. Some mix of ch...

The Apex ribbon mics (and probably all the others with the same design) are horrible for this. They have what looks like the SM7 connection, but it doesn't even turn. You have to spin the whole mic around, or the stand. Either way, the cord is connected to the mic and it gets tangled up in the stand...

I have it and like what it does for the money. For some reason, the whole panning balance is backwards... so, when I pan something hard right, I hear it hard left in the headphones. It's an easy thing to fix, but weird that it's a problem in the first place. The sound isn't bad though. Pretty good f...

First, I have to say, when Joel or Adam speak, I listen. You should too. I cannot tell you how much I respect those two. Most people (at least were I am) who open studios are so detached from the real world of music it is sad. People assume they can open a place, spend buckets of money on an HD3 sy...

I'd bring in an intern to at least cover your ass. I've had a very small, very quick brush with the idea of being involved in a sexual harrassment case and let me tell you, it'll scare the FUCK out of you. Definitely don't act on it at all while you're producing the record... being in a position of ...
