I just got a Radial Tonebone Classic. Seems perfect for this kind of thing. I also have the MW1 Studio Tool which is awesome for running stompboxes in a mix, + about 20 other very cool thing one can do with it. Reamp w/ an overdrive = love. Just be sure to slide the resulting track ahead a little so...

Turns the 24 i/o into a pro piece. Since the clock for the 24 i/o is on the card inside the computer, supposedly the "noise" in there induces jitter. All I know, is now I don't think about my system - I can just work and feel good about what I do. I think it now compares favorably with much higher-e...

I have found swapping to a lower gain tube is nice on a lot of stuff including guitar amps for the preamp tube. Try a high-quality 12AT7 or 12AU7. The 12AX7s from China generally suck, and a lot of times anything Chinese will be a 12AX7 labeled with whatever the circuit calls for. My Apex 460 went f...

Thing I like about teh internets: makes me think, which makes me do stuff, which gets me thinking again. A vicious circle which in my case is a little dangerous - things start going like when you put too much feedback on an analog delay. I pulled out the Micro Limiter and put it into the line level ...

"To further the nasty comp list (I know the Alesis Micro Limiter has already been mentioned, but that thing is a dirt box in the best way. I own 2 of them. One can find them on eBay, or their local pawn shop for $30, or so. We used a M L on a mono drum bus on the first 2 Interpol albums - right alon...

I know for sure the MXR Dual Limiters came from the factory pin 3 hot. Maybe that's why you were having trouble interfacing them? I just got in there and swapped the wires. Boy, the new 501s suck. The difference between one I recently got and my toggle/Valley 501's pretty vast. Dang. Thanks for the ...

Are Alesis Micro Limiters cool? I have one, I just sort of forgot about it what with the Dynamites, Sure SE 30 and so on. How about the MXR Dual Limiter? Any recipes off the top of your head for destructo madness, Mr. Hamilton? I was checking out your G spot, and totally loved the explosions of squa...

Drip Electronics
This stuff is amazing.
Download the pdf. of one of the offerings.
It's not a kit, as he doesn't send you parts, but his plans are very detailed as to how to obtain everything and build from his boards. The results are off the hook.

I am a tape deck preamp fool. So far I have 5 Scullys, 2 Ampex 351s, 3 Berlant Concertones, and have gotten rid of more old 1/4 " consumer tube decks than I care to remember. While all of them have their moments, they're all kind of cruddy. It takes some love of crud to really dig them, but sometime...
