must see vid:Should you quit your job & join a band?

A hilarious must see (and oh so true) video on the realities of being a touring musician given by the amazing cellist Zoe Keating (a former member of Rasputina, who now does shows doing live looping of solo cello - and one of the big success stories of the "new biz model" showing that you can actual...

Depends on the unit. If it's recent, a USB transfer should be possible using Sony's software. Some older portable units had optical outputs via the headphone jack, they need a special converter. And some didn't have any digital outputs. Most minidisc decks had SPDIF. Check out minidisc.org, they ha...

Awful news. I figured someone like Jim had at least another 10 years producing great stuff and another 10 after that of just plain enjoying life. I had the priviledge of last year mastering an album for the band "Boister" - http://www.boister.net - who went down to Jim's Zebra Ranch studio and had h...

For me it depends on what connector you're talking about.

TRS - Switchcraft

fwiw - I have a couple ATS pre-made absorbers and a couple of their 2'x2'x4" bass traps. The GIK Acoustics bass traps I have are much more effective at low frequency absorption than the ATS pre-made ones because with the GIK the rock wool is packed much tighter and they are better framed out than th...

One way is through DDP. If you can create a DDP image (a file in a format standardized by DCA and accepted by the majority of pressing plants that contains all necessary subcodes and audio necessary to create a glass master for disc pressing) and if they have a PC they can load it back in Sonoris DD...

Cartridge alignment and stylus pressure being properly setup is also critical to getting the most out of your system. Before spending a bunch of money you should either get the alignment tool that goes with your specific cartridge or use a generic cartridge alignment protractor - a bunch which can b...

I'm curious what bad things you have heard about United. They run great deals all the time and put out a product that is good (way, way better than Pirates Press, which is similarly priced). fwiw - I've seen a number of clients of mine have mixed success with URP. To get the best results from them ...

the equipment that guy has at salt is just insane. I think Paul's setup is actually pretty straightforward and not as pimped out as some places - generally just going more for a direct path with a few high quality pieces instead of having lots of flashy processors. He's building what should be a re...
