thanks everyone. still dont know how i overlooked that in the prefs. so obvious!

this has to be something dumb, but i cant seem to find it in the preferences... when i highlight a region and hit play - it plays. when i stop it from playing the highlighted region de-selects. or when the highlighted section plays through it stops (when finished) and deselects. any idea what i need...
