Re: 808 sounds?
As far as newer "analog emulating" modules go, I love my Korg ER-1. Best 300 bucks I ever spent (I think they go for $260 now). I don't know how it messures up to an actual 808, but it's got some great in-your-gut bass sounds and it's highly tweakable. Try running it through your favorite analog ove...

Re: Question about Pavement
Just wanted to say that I think Concubine hit it right on. I totally agree. Very well said. Pavement doesn't quite sound as innovative and refreshing now as it did back in the early nineties. I appreciate what Pavement did and get a little nostalgic myself when I hear it (guess that shows my age), b...

Re: Pet Sounds
Oh, for those who don't get Radiohead or just those who'd like to get more insight as to why folks like myself really dig them, check out John Darnielle's writings about Amnesiac on his Last Plane To Jakarta web site (sort of a rock zine). Darnielle, the Mountain Goats dude BTW, is an amazing "rock ...

Re: Pet Sounds
Some of the reason why I love Pet Sounds: -The strings on "Don't Talk" are the sounds of self-doubt. They make me choke up. They strike a nerve. Kind of like Samuel Barber's "Addagio for Strings" (you know, that string passage that's often repeated in the movie Platoon) -All of the arrangements are ...

Re: Sixties Records
This is a great thread. "One Chord to Another" is the best Beatles-derivative record ever made IMHO. Even better than Bad Finger. That tune 'G turns to D' is a religious experience for me. I can't stop jumping around when I hear it. It's sort of what "Fell in Love with a Girl" wants to sound like (a...

indie rock musicians in C'ville/Richmond, VA
Songwriter/multi-instrumentalist currently recording solo in a studio in the basement of a farmhouse in Charlottesville Virginia seeks other musicians in the area to record and play out with. I have experience touring. Great space (free) with all kinds of instruments. Must be into original indie/exp...
