In the past I have used Crane Song's "Phoenix" plugin for saturation. It has several degrees of color, and you can add it to as many channels as you wish to achieve a rich sound. It's expensive though, $450.

I found a 15' cable at redco for $10.00, the link that you shared was from England.

Which is long enough for my current studio. Thanks again!

Focusrite Liquid Mix launch failure
Does anyone out there use the Focusrite Liquid Mix? I have had one for a while, and it is unreliable, so I rarely use it. My unit will fail to launch on the first attempt and says "Liquid Mix failed to access hardware", so I have to try several times before the unit displays that it is ready to work...

trodden, thanks for posting your floor plan. How many square feet do you have? Your control room looks huge! I am going to move my mix position further back than it appears in my floor plan. I'll be designing and researching for a few months before we start building. Thanks for checking out this thr...

ok, I scaled up the live room and control room. I dialed down the hallway width, and nixed the bathroom space at the end of the room... I'll have to build a small annex building for the toilet and lounge area (plus I've always wanted a shower at the studio for the bands and whatever)! http://www.roc...

Thanks Rhythm Ranch, I was hoping to have some storage in the hallway, but you're right, i'll make the CR and Live room bigger, and add an extra room somewhere else for my storage needs. I made the vocal room super large, just in case I need to fit the drum kit in there on occasion. But I'll finesse...

Noeqplease: I generally track drums and scratch guitar. Although I do an occasional session with vocals and everything live, which is why I am going to build a vocal room. I'm not planning on building a huge mega studio, but a modest facility where I can afford to exist. I have a rough sketch of bas...

New Rockstudio Design & Construction!
Hi, I have finally acquired my own piece of land for my commercial studio. I plan to start building by spring 2011. I have operated out of my current studio space since 2002, which is a budget half-arsed attempt by the previous owner to fashion a recording studio out of a nice, large department stor...

I bought a Creamware A-16 Ultra several years ago, at the suggestion of friends on this board. I have been very happy with the unit (16 channels of simultaneous AD/DA via ADAT @ 44.1 or 48 khz: 8 simul. channels at 88.2 or 96khz). Creamware recently changed names to Sonic Core . I purchased my A-16 ...

I think the schematic suggests that you may use your preamp with or without output transformers. You must have the coupling capacitors at the end of the gain modules to block dc between stages and the output. There should be around +12vdc before each coupling cap. Hamptone's article says that you ma...

In case you are still looking for the perfect cutting tool: I learned this trick from a huge Acoustics Pro in Atlanta, GA- a chinese pull saw. http://images.rockler.com/rockler/images/26597-01-200.jpg I got mine at Home Depot. I use it all the time when I am making acoustic panels for the wooden fra...
