Re: Oktava MK-319 mic review

It goes something like this: Joe Startingout "I own this Escort (MK319) and it's great I love it! It get's me to school, takes me out and about on the weekends, I drive it to church and I can even use it to lug around some heavy equipment. What a fantastic car!" Joe Beenaroundawhile "An Escort (MK31...

Re: Snare Drum Alert!

Yes well here in the Detroit of Michigan, if you want Oktava mics you have to have a GC rep order them from an out of state location.

Re: Recording rock drums with only 2 mics

Here PT, this is a very good starting point for variations on stereo mic techniques . It not only describes the placement technique and name but gives decent illustrations. I hope that it is of some help. You could also very easily do the Glyn Johns drum micing method if you have a mixer with at lea...

Re: Recording rock drums with only 2 mics

Indeed, try using only a kick and a snare mic so you can see why that is not a good method. All of what the Professor said is great up to this point. Many a great drum track has been recorded with 1 or 2 mics, pretty much most everything up to the 60's was done with no more than 2 mics. In fact for...

Re: Recording rock drums with only 2 mics

PT A KM184 would be a great mic to use as an overhead, a large daiphragm condensor would be ideal but yes the 184 will do the trick. I have recently recorded drums using just two mics, I use a minimal ammount of mics on drums quite a lot actually, and it yeilds very good results. Here are the things...

Re: recording vocals... anyone?

As was mentioned by Bigtoe, "knowing" your environment plays as important a role in how the vocals sound and what that will translate to once you drop them into the mix as much as the equipment you use. All of the suggestions you've been given so far are well worth trying so go ahead and try them! T...

Re: Micing Accordian

A haha an ML52! Good I own one and love it (especially for micing up bass amps) Thanks everyone for the advice and specifics of placement. I will take all of these things into consideration and tell you how it all turns out after the session actually happens. This is great by the way. I've recieved ...

Re: Micing Accordian

Right in front of or above the player? Though I suppose the answer would be prefaced with, "Well, it depends on the tonal quality, ammount of room ambience add naseum of variables that your looking for in the sound" But aside from all of that, where did you place the pair?

Micing Accordian

Hello all, I hope to find someone who might be so kind as to give some general guidelines on the best way to mic an accordian. I may be recording this instrument soon and if I can have a bit of shared knowledge under my belt to help things move along without myself coming across a total idiot then I...
