Re: Otari mx5050 noise reduction?!?!
I have an MX5050 and (4) DBX 180A noise reduction units, and it works quite well. You aren't going to be able to use the single noise reduction unit on your 2 bus during mixdown, because of what the untreated signal from each channel will sound like and interact with your EQ, effects, compressors, a...

Re: Tube Overhall Question
The tech will gladly ream you $50 or so for installing tubes. Changing the tubes is really not that big of a deal; there is no soldering involved, they just plug in. For point of reference as to how easy this is, my Mom rembers changing the tubes in her old TV in college. I guess you'd have to know ...

Re: Speaker cones and little kids...
I pulled the dustcaps back out on a pair of JBL's I found in a trash heap when I was in high school by taking a pin and making a tiny hole in the epicenter of the dented part, then working the head of the pin into the hole and gently pulling the dustcap back into shape. It worked really well and the...

Re: how much did you make yesterday?
Yesterday I spent $7 on my share of the rehearsal space but I found a $10 bill in the 7-11 parking lot so I made $3.

Re: Sticker Labels on CDs....
In my work I've cut thousands of CD roms; we used to use the little clear stickers that could stick on; they WILL come off inside your CD player; they also throw the rotational balance of the CD off, and when the laser is trackin' a groove 2 microns wide at 650 RPM any vibration will cause problems....

Re: Part find for a SF Fender
I was mentally picturing the back of my Vox berkely, which has a square 2 prong outlet. I forgot the one on the fender was round. I actually have been looking for the same part for a while. Next time I go to Apex Electronics I'll scour the AC parts aisle for somehting like that, as yet I haven't bee...

Re: Part find for a SF Fender
Wait a minute... are you talking about the receptacle on the back of the amp? I just left mine 2 wire, rather than cut the hole large enough to fit a grounded ac receptacle in there (which would be over twice as big). You can safely ground the amp and leave the receptacle 2 wire.

Re: Part find for a SF Fender
I replaced the deathtrap 2 wire line cord on my '65 bassman with a 12' black line cord I bought at Home Depot. It is made by Woods, is 12' long, black, and has a nice molded AC plug on one end and bare wires on the other. I disconnected the 'ground' switch and capacitor inside (i left the switch in ...

Re: I am Rodney King
I've noticed trends on this board, and every now and then things get bad here and I stop posting, stop looking, and sort of forget about it for a while. A few months will pass, the losers will have moved on, and then I become an active participant again. I've also noticed that as soon as a topic has...

Looks like you wound up with a quadrophonic mix, Loud. I'd love to mix in quad, so only the geeks with their parent's old 70's receivers could get the full deal!

My initials are CV, so I always thought CV and the Joints would be a good band name for me. Nice little double entendre (for the uninitiated, a CV joint is a fundamental part of a front wheel drive car.) Also, RV and the Hookups for the country swing crowd. available on Colostomy Bag Records. cv

Re: did you buy your analog multitrack on Ebay?
I bought my Mx5050 2 track deck on ebay-- this is the console version that matches the 8 track cabinet style, not the rack mount one. When it arrived, the chassis had settled within the wood frames and the reels would scrape the wood sides; I unscrewed all of the screws and pulled the sides down as ...
