I always think it's weird to spend a bunch of money on something that's supposed to sound lofi. Yeah, totally agree. I loved my copperphone (and wouldn't consider it lo-fi) but even if I left it up most of the time i was only able to really use it here or there. If I had a massive mic locker, I wou...

I can't find the video right now, but what you are looking for is exactly what these kids were using their's for, they did it as a music technology experiment for a class.

I had this great idea (in my mind) a few years ago and when I researched it I found out a bunch of German college kids had basically already done it. But my idea was a computer mouse that had a volume pot on it instead of a scroll wheel OR a large volume pot that could act as a mouse (imagine the TC...

Lo-fi Mics, Crazy Mics, Carbon Mics - What do you love?

So, I have a new project and I want to pic up some cheap cool mics for some aural craziness. I've been away for a while so just checking in to see what people are using? I recently ran across the old phone handles that have been converted to mics on ebay. I would do one myself if I could locate an o...

Best guitar sound I think I ever recorded was my SM7 through a SCA A12 pre-amp. That was my go to for a long time on rock guitar.

FS-THE Soundtracs Topaz 32 console, custom wood meter bridge

So I am toying around with selling my Topaz, I love this thing to death but I am just not using it right now and I hate to see it collecting dust. I am the second owner of this board. It is the board that was in the studio Garges started in I believe (please correct me if I am wrong) and I picked it...

I went on a Jerry Finn kick lately and here's what I've discovered about his techniques on his earlier records (I particularly like the Jawbreaker, Superdrag, and The Muffs records he did) Kick In and Out and Snare Top and Bottom, both summed to 1 track to tape with a touch of DBX 160, with a 1176 ...

Try this post in the Mnats build thread. Its old so I am not sure if it applies, but it looks like a bunch of people have made the mistake of hooking the transformer wiring up incorrectly because there was a wiring mistake in the instructions versus the original schematic. http://groupdiy.com/index....

Yeah I think those guys actually put in an upgraded volume pot, but it is a really weird taper so contact them. At the very least if they use the original soundcraft part I am sure they'll have some in stock.

Home Studio blowout - 1/4 cables, patchbays, ART VLA, etc.

I am cleaning out a ton of stuff trying to make more room for the family and raise some cash for my other love; my e30 convertible. I have a ton of cables and connectors and a few pieces of rack, guitar gear etc. Hit me up with any questions. I will add some pics tonight of all the cables etc. I add...

Books and some free Manuals

Continuing to clean out all the crap I'm not using I have a few books to sell and some random manuals I found that someone may want. BOOKS: Behind the Glass, interviews with producers; George Martin, Brian Wilson, Phil Ramone and more. Pretty interesting read and apparently a great gift idea because...
