Sounds good man....Are you liking that 441 on the snare? I pulled one out last night just to mess around with. The last session I did I was using an Audix i5 pointed at the shell, which I really like sometimes now but I was getting way too much hat bleed, but the drummer was a real basher so I'm no...

I've been super happy with ORTF as of late. What benefits have you got from this method, opposed to others? GIve me YOUR specs. Like, if you were looking at the kit from the SIDE, how "deep" into the kit are the mics? Over the back edge of cymbals? Over the back edge of toms? Things like that - and...

Why? Do you think the bass drum sounds bad or you don't like Evans heads?

I think you'd benefit with a little experiment with OH placement/technique. I think they could use to be a little more off axis so there's a bit less attack tone and more of the envelope. Obviously the playing is good so you won't be retracking these tunes, but in the future... You ceiling is short...

Thanks. But these are rough mixes - certainly not the finished product. The overheads are a bit too loud and maybe to much high end. And yeah, the toms are panned pretty wide.

This is what I did... When we miked up the kit, I actually did ask him to remove some cymbals  (disclaimer - I asked, "are you going to use TWO china's AND a Zil-Bell").... So anyway, we went with this - Spaced Pair 414 for overheads - the Glyn Johns "side" mic was getting cluttered by the Chin...

Put them both up there and see what happens! I'd personally go for the RE20. Or put the RE20 in the kick and use the D12 for the floor tom. I just recorded drums for my friends' next record. Here is what we used: http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?p=517768#517768 Jeff Jeff - any raw drum ...

Not only is that wrong, but it's also very subjective.

Lots of people will trash the 2020's but they sound pretty good. I use 414's for my overheads, but these are for low-cost room mics.
