Re: Drum tuning

a nice little trick someone showed me once was (while the heads are off) tap the shell and find the pitch/key of it...then tune to compliment the shells natural pitch/key....it works great....and the drums sound like drums....also the heads you use will affect your perception of the drum and its pit...

Re: MixCritique.com - An New Concept...

this kind of stuff scares me a little.......i think it may remove the whole idea of expression in music and mixing .....would you correct Neil Youngs harvest moon? what about bands like Godheadsilo or ADD N to X....their "art" relies sometimes on blatant misuse of gear and mixing....this kind of ide...

Re: Best mic at around $200 for my mic locker?

YOU NEED A RIBBON !!!!!or 2 those OKTAVA ribbons rock.....they are stunning for the price..... i have 2 and the diffrence between them and a Coles is very negligible.....

Or a 421 always is nice especially for snares and guitar cabs

i've also had good results with a 57/Oktave 219 and the small MCo12....my favorite to date though is a 421 and one of the oktavas or a km84........or was that a dream i had? damn these fantasy pills!

Re: where should we place this?

your room sounds like its pretty close to mine....except i have one brick wall ....my first suggestion would be to try to keep the brick wall in front of you and behind you....try to center the console while leaving room to walk sit and shit.....as far as soundproofing goes i bought some MOPAD aural...

Re: masterlink vs. cd burner

i used to go from my studer to a stand alone tascam burner and get decent results....but then, like you, i also wanted a masterlink based off the info i was reading on it...but $800-$1000 was kind of a bite.... i asked my mentor (jim Vollentine) a much older (haha) more experienced engineer, what he...

Zaolla!? 2001 MOD? states evidence?

do these Zaolla mic cables really sound that much better...even if your studio has regular (notsilver) cabling etc? what about the instrument cables....i've been considering getting one for my guitar setup since i play with LOTS of FX? maybe two--one for guitar to input and one from last pedal to am...
