Ohh yeah for got to mention the mics I use. I use an AKG Perception 200 most of the time, but I've used an AT4050 with great success too. I've found that even when there is no sound hole in the resonate head you can still get a good sound, but having a close dynamic in addition is definately a good ...

I'm temped. I'm looking for a nice pre/compressor for around that price. But I've never used one of these units and I'm afraid the compressor isn't what I'm really looking for. I've heard it's a bit....trasparent...and I'm looking to color up some vox and bass. Do you have any links to sound samples...

If I want less cymbal leakage in that mic I'll build a little tunnel around the kick drum and mic good point...but I've found that it reduces the nice airy quality you benefit from by using the condensor. ok i tried it with blankets.....what are you using for your "tunnel"? also....I find that havi...

I have to agree about liking the general sound better on outside mic'd kicks. I used to always think close dynamic mics were better...thats how I was taught to mic. But over the years I like more open sound of an outside mic'd kick. That being said....using a mic like the 421 or a heil pr40 sound be...

I'm thinking that using the insert you can only use the trim to adjust the volume. No if you pull the 1/4" jack out so that it only engages the tip it should send at full volume....because it's meant to accept a trs the tip being the send and the ring being the return....i'm pretty sure at least. If...

Unfortunately I missed Fleet Foxes when they came to Tucson....had too work late in Phoenix! My friend said they sounded amazing. They were definately the best sounding band I've heard on Saturday Night Live when they played last month. I think they are very well practiced and I'm guessing someone i...

I've been on the fence too. I have 3 rack spaces I need to fill and I need a nice mic pre and a compressor. It'd be nice to have a 2 channel compressor, and I love that fact that the ART VLA II has VU meters. I hate those little led lights, especially when dealing with compression where a little ma...

Thanks for the input! It seems like if I'm going to pick up an outboard compressor the RNC has alot of great feedback and is good choice. I took a good solid look at the Presonus Mp20...and it has promise but I'm not sold on a pre amp yet. But after more reading I'm really liking the ART MPA Gold, e...

I know it's not a sought after vintage mic, but I end up using my AKG perception 200 on anything you need a LDC for, but are afraid you'll damage the capsule. From a foam covered acoustic bass body mic, live bar recordings, kick, snare bottom micing, amps, and it's even pretty good on vox. Great lit...

You can pick up a Focusrite Twintrack for about that much. Pre amps may be the same on your Digi, but the compressors on that unit are pretty exceptable. Yeah i found this: http://www.audiolines.com/product.php?productid=15510 Would i need to use the Word clock to prevent latency? I was kinda looki...

Help choosing mic pre & compressor around $500

Ok...lots of info....but let me know what you think. I've got a little ProTools setup with a digi 003 and a Presonus Digimax D8 for the ADAT channels. I also have a ART TubeMP Project series that I'm using for my standard mic pre/DI. I have a 16 channel/4 return snake running from my recording space...

It's such a preferential thing, but I love creating big stereo images. I usually like a stereo imaged drum set so it sounds like you sitting in the throne, but it's fun to do a mono mix too. I'm always adding a vocal or a 2nd gtr part out of far left or right though....it just adds something fun to ...

If you're trying to get a great drum sound with one mic, how the hell do you do it with an overhead? Is the bass drum not important to you? I agree, the bass drum is important. It does depend on the style of music. I've recorded a couple jazz drummers who want a more blended sound and use a kick wi...
