I wish I had that trident, instead I have a "nice punchy" yamaha mc2404 "console." The first pic is of my studio in my parent's house in LA. The second is the room I record in at school when I need to record drums. The third is in my apartment at school. http://photos-562.facebook.com/ip001/v1...

distant mic

Yesturday I discovered the joys of mic'ing mono drums. Oh so glorious if you have a decent room. Phase? forget about it. But today I'm tackling electric guitars. I was thinking about going with a TO ribbon and baby bottle close up, and I was thinking about doing an SD for a room sound. I have a mc01...

I record with a Groove Tubes Ditto box. It can sound very nice as is, but then during mixing, I'll run it out to an Alembic preamp and McIntosh MC30 into an Acme Low B2. Sounds amazing. It doesn't add grit, as I don't turn it up that loud, just lots of space and depth. Tubes! Edwin almost anything ...

slap back delay for guitar

Lately I've been loving the slapback sound on guitar, but the only way I've been getting it is by using my pod. So I need to get a delay pedal so my tone won't completely suck and get some nice juice from my beloved MusicMan amp. So do you guys have any favorites for slapback? I have a budget of abo...

Difference between Neumann KMi and KM84

Hey guys so I just got a Neumann KMi, I was wondering what the difference is to it's KM84 counterpart. I think the KMi is the broadcast version, but that's about all the knowledge I have.

I haven't tried the APIs but I regularly use the Precision 8 with a pair of Earthworks QTC40s or KM184s. I've mostly done live classical recordings with a few sessions with classical players and so forth. These are the cleanest pres I've tried. I like them quite a bit. I've found they work especiall...

recording with EH12AY7 Pre-Acoustic & Vocals

started out with laying down a basic vocal and acoustic guitar track. what do you guys think of the mix. it's seems to me as though the bass has a nice bottom, but needs definition or is it alright for this song. the acoustic is recorded mono with a baby bottle>12AY7>ProVLA, the main vocal is record...

I've done it with an AT4051 for group soprano vocals in an accapella session. It was a bit too bright for my taste.

A pair of AT 4051s, they're amazing for piano (they're obviously my favorite). They're also pretty good overhead mics as well. There's so much stuff. Oh man I'm jealous. I'll have 2k to spend as soon as I get paid for the last album I mixed, but it'll all be going to credit cards from stuff I alread...

As much as I like mixing, panning can be the most rewarding but sometimes the biggest pain in the ass. I don't know if anyone feels this way. Panning is half the battle imo. Lately, I've been enjoying tracking a little more. Over the last couple I've figured out that somethings like amps, acoustic g...

I definately like the new version many times over the first. Although the hats are a little bright for my taste, but nothing disturbing or anything. The new mix has more life to it. Good call on changing the synth patch. haha..
