Re: Are the loudness wars over?

If I recall correctly, the loudness wars thing began in earnest with Queen's producer, Roy Thomas Baker. I have heard that it goes back to Duane Eddy & Lee Hazlewood though I now can't find the quote. Find a 45 of Telstar & you'll see that Joe Meek was definitely a combatant in the loudness wars.

Re: Connector for old Lafayette mic?

I actually bought one of those off ebay and besides getting the gender wrong because I assumed , and you know what happens when you assume, it looked like the pin spacing was different. I will have to check again tonight. I just wanted to make sure before I buy another $30 connector off ebay that w...

Re: Differences in monitoring: mix rooms vs mastering suites

Does the board host pictures for us? I could post some of my process & results... When you type a post, there'll be two tabs on the left below the white space where you're typing. One of those is marked "Attachments." Go there to post photos. They need to be small, though, or they will be rejected.

Re: 1073 SPX pre versus Shelford Channel pre?

It bothers me tremendously that my iphone as a more solid (and more considered, more thoughtful) power supply than my Neve mic pre. I want to feel like someone really cared about the unit's creation and put endless thought into it. This speaks volumes - follow your heart! T I respectfully disagree....

I'm putting this here because it's completely unrelated to the stated topics of this thread, so, you know..... Last night's sleep was rather fitful (I don't know if you noticed, but we had a tense little election down here in Georgia yesterday, and it's possible I had one too many beers before bedti...

Re: 1073 SPX pre versus Shelford Channel pre?

The more we analyze this, the more I think that I'm really turned off by the power supply on the SPX. I assume it's an off-board switching power supply (haven't seen it)--I don't consider that a problem at all. A good switching mode supply should be quiet & will hold a steady voltage. You may not l...

I like this one a lot. Cheers!
Thank you!! It's an old track, but Covid boredom inspired me to dredge it back up.

From the bowels of my hard drive directly to you: "Empty The Ocean." Fretless bass, tenor sax, and synth pads courtesy of a somewhat poorly behaved Roland GR700. Percussion overdubs.

Probably would help if your singer smoked a pack of Luckies or Camel unfiltered before and during recording.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Just got a power supply for some old Mccurdy compressors. They are in excellent condition, my tech put meters on them as well. https://reverb.com/item/31920011-mccurdy-cp8496-compressor-module-racked-pair-1980 aren't the ones I bought, but to give a visual. Re: Affordable "Vintage " Midi key/synth

Maybe worth a look is the Yamaha CS6X--and I say this partly because there's one on craigslist in your neck of the woods. Nice selection of sounds, somewhat limited but nonetheless useful knobbiness on the panel, can be expanded with various sound cards. Arpeggiator, which IIRC transmits over midi (...

If I'm remembering this right, Jim Stewart at Stax would insist on high passing the mix at 180 Hz when cutting 45s.

Re: Is anyone not using Valhalla Supermassive?

EDIT: I was thinking of their Space Modulator plugin, also free, which I use some. I have Supermassive (and now have the update!), but I have yet to do much with it. I'll dig into it soon.
