Re: Renovating a gutted house: what to consider?

Get a reputable electrician in to evaluate the service in the house..might be a good idea to add some circuits to handle the load so you don't blow a circuit when you are up and running and someone makes popcorn in the microwave.....also check out the grounding situation real well...use a star groun...

Re: compressor volume/gain

I guess I'm just a bit confused as to why you would be putting your compressor on the FX send......to use compression you need to process the whole signal, not just part of it. Keep it on your channel insert. Unless you can give me a good reason to send the signal on the FX send.

Really need all the dimensions width, length, height to calculate what might be your problematic frequencies. You have any corners or angles......need more info.

Re: Mpls- let's get this meeting set

Hey, I think you got a great idea......but it's summer and I'm just going to take a stab here....all the studio rats here might be able to use some sunlight. Why not try a picnic /BBQ down by Minnehaha falls or something. Could be outside, have a boombox blaring, maybe a little KFC(x-tra crispy). Ju...

Re: Mixing with or without the band

Frankly I hate having band members around while I'm editing, signal processing, mixing or mastering. They are paying me to do that part of the project, leave me alone. With proper pre-production and discussions I think you can get a good idea of what they want to hear in the end. More time has been ...

Re: Anyone in Minneapolis?

Being that you will need to calibrate, check the bias and your reference tones nearly every time you use the machine you might as well learn to do that stuff yourself. There is a guy who teaches a calibration class at Hennepin Tech College in Eden Prairie named Steve Hanson who happens to go way bac...

Re: Tricks to use on backup vocals

I should clarify....the song was ACDC..."Dirty Deeds" and the part was the 8 breaths in the back.....and if you looked at each breath as 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8, the track was cut between 4 & 5 and you reversed the order of the breaths now to 5-6-7-8-1-2-3-4 does that make more sence?

Tricks to use on backup vocals

Maybe this isn't news to some folks but I was sure impressed. Recently while recording a band doing a cover. I foolishly recorded the 2 backup vocal parts at the same time using one mic...........what I got was a thin and certainly not very rocking backup. To correct for it I took the 8 breaths and ...

Re: whats your fav recording right now, or some anyways

There is a great new band from Minneapolis called "Planet Melvin" that just released a new record called "Chromosomes in Space" and let me attest to how much fun it is. The recording has a great loose and mischivous sound reminisant of Frank Black and the Pixies recordings, check them out at planetm...
