Re: TAPEOP should have a convention in......................

Brooklyn! Plenty of clubs. Bunches of musicians. Tons of studios and producer/engineers. And I can definitely go!

Eastwood guitars/short-scale basses

Those guitars look fucking awesome! And they're not too expensive. The whole vintage gear collectors' market thing has gotten so out of hand that if you're a musician of limited means, you can't afford a cool old instrument anymore. I realize this ain't news to anyone here, but that just makes it ex...

Don't forget Robert Quine, Wayne Kramer, James Williamson, Ron Asheton, Bob Dylan... God there's so many.

Re: VST, RTAS and Pro Tools

You can try Ugly VST too. Look it up online. It's free, and there's a review of it in one of the Brit sound mags--I think Sound on Sound. I use it to run the B4 in ProTools. The whole VST wrapper thing is really confusing, especially if you don't really understand MIDI all that well. But I've gotten...

multiple audiosuite plug-ins

I'm trying to add some compression and EQ to my snare track in ProTools LE. Does it matter in which order I apply the audiosuite plug ins? Should I apply the compression first or the EQ, and is there a way to apply them together, so I'm not applying one over the top of another file? Does this make a...

junokane,

I was at the TN Fairgrounds gig too. It was awesome. I remember MacGowan coming out at saying "it's like fucking Burma...."

And I don't ever expect to see anybody doing the Chuck Berry duck walk with an accordion again...

Reamping a snare

Can somebody give me some insight on reamping a snare? I've got a bunch of decent tracks but the snare sounds a little flat. No real Ringo crack. Any suggestions? Oh, I run a Digi001 on B&W G3 if that helps. I tried it once with Smokey on top of the snare head with the speaker pointed into the head ...

Re: Recording In New York City

Come on! We can use you! I've got my own band called Eureka! and we're currently struggling with recording ourselves, and could really use a hand. We've got the songs, and the practice, but getting good sounds is what's eluding us currently. I think you'll find tons of people to work with here. The ...

Re: Big Star; what am I missing?

I love Big Star, especially some of the Sister Lovers stuff. I was a huge R.E.M. fan, grew up in Nashville, and have a friend who worked with Jim Dickinson in Memphis in the early 90's. The stuff was so hard to find, and talked about so much it became mythical, and that was a big draw for me. I was ...

Re: Dublin, Ireland V. New York, New York.

I might be into it. I'm in Brooklyn. My style is a little more trad rock and roll (read: Beatles, Stonesy, Dylan). What can you tell me about the scene in Dublin. My girlfriend is thinking it might be a cool place to move. I'm not sure how we'd do that both being US citizens, but who knows.... Let m...

Re: layering guitars

The basic rhythm guitar parts were recorded with a strat and the little champ. In your opinion what other configuration might make some guitars jump out more? I may try acoustic, but it seems pretty wrong for this. Of course, that may mean it's just the thing!

layering guitars

Does anybody have some general hints on layering guitar parts? I know it really depends on the song, and I'm not trying to make my record into ELO, but I'm trying to fatten up the choruses and bridge with a little extra rhythm and lead work. I'm just trying to see if there are any general guidelines...
