Re: Mac or PC debate
I have been involved in these sorts of "debates" for a while, and it's a never ending cycle. Don't get caught up in the hype. Everyone thinks the one they own is better, and they will fight tooth and nail to prove it to you. It's weird how personally people take it, like your bashing their only chil...

Re: Time for a DAW
If you are on a budget, the Pro Tools LE with Digi 002 wouldn't be a bad idea. Plus, you are already familiar with the PT platform and that would spare you a lot of potential headaches of learning a new program. If you are worried about the longevity of your purchase, it seems like Digidesign defina...

Re: music stores / live music venues in Portland, OR?
Definately pick up a "Mercury" free newspaper. That will have all sorts of good info about interesting bands and places to eat. A good late night food spot is the Montage, it's open to like 4:00 in the morning or something...very good cajun eats, and boisterous staff. Jimmy Mac's downtown has some p...

You can also try duplicating the track and just messing around with the EQ on it as well. When you pan them out left and right , it isn't as drastic or "effected" if you want a more natural space...

Re: input question in cubase
Sounds like may be having a conflict with your audio driver. I had the same thing happen once. Try tweaking your ASIO setup, In my version of Cubase it's under: OPTIONS / AUDIO SETUP / SYSTEM. At the top right there will be your ASIO Driver. Try pulling down the menu until you hear something, or che...

Re: Very Mundane question about CD burning. . . .
There are different ways in which you can transfer and convert audio on your computer. MP3 is just one way to do it. MP3 is a compressed audio format. MP3's are benificial in the same ways JPEG image files are, because they are smaller and faster to transfer over the internet. MP3's are compressed f...

Good Tape care practices?
So, I picked a 1/2" tape deck, and I'm really liking the feeling of mixing "out of the box". The problem is, I don't really know how to take good care of my tape. Should I forward it off after every session? Or, is it OK for it to stay on the machine for a couple of days? Does the constant action of...

Re: TV on the Radio?
If you want a real treat, pick up the ep "young liars", I listened to that thing over and over for weeks. In response to the droning drum sound inquiry (at least on that ep) I hear a lot of analog drum machines. I bummed an old univox, and it creates that weird sort of fuzzy snare sound similar to t...

Re: Echo Mia: likes/ dislikes
I picked up an Echo MIDI Mia a few months ago and I'm very satisfied with it. I do basically the same sort of thing as you, so I don't need a lot of inputs, just one. It was easy to install, and seems to work fine with everything I use with it. No big conflicts with Cubase, Logic, Cakewalk, Soundfor...

Re: sound card will not work with programs
Of course creative labs cards suck. Hence the discription "crappy" audigy card on my OLD sytem. But that is a little off topic. (I knew as soon as I mentioned the devil's name someone would pipe up...) . Just saying that disabling the onboard card solved my problem. Could solve yours... cheers-

Re: sound card will not work with programs
I'm not sure exacty why it would work on some programs and not on others, but I ran into the same type of thing on my old system. At that time, I was running on Windows 2K. I installed my crappy audigy card, and it recorded into Soundforge just fine, but in Cubase and Logic I couldn't even get a sig...

Re: making a cd cover...
Hi, In response to madpie, for the record, I never said you COULDN'T use Photoshop for the whole layout, I just said I wouldn't advise it because your fonts can become illegible if you aren't careful. Photoshop is an extremely powerful program, didn't say it wasn't, but it works more powerful in con...

Re: sound card will not work with programs
Sounds like you are having a conflict with your onboard soundcard and the new one. You may have to go into the BIOS settings and manually disable your old onboard card. If you haven't done it before you may need to elicit some help. . When you disable your onboard card, try re-installing the lynx dr...

Good drummers are indeed brilliant people...when they show up for practice...
With that in mind...

What has three legs and an asshole on top?
a drumstool.
.
How many lead guitarists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

one to do it and eleven to say "man....I can do that".
