I've always found that my performances are better if they're not to a click, so if I want a precise tempo, I will: 1. record guitar to a click 2. record drums while listening only to the guitar (no click) 3. replace the guitar while listening only to the drums. That way the keeper takes were all do...

DIY by Yourself, of Yourself, sadly probably for Yourself...

The Glyn Johns article got me thinking about something I've been struggling with. I love his thoughts on bands and tracking together and having someone play a tom louder if they say they can't hear it, etc. I'm not currently playing with anyone and do all my writing and recording by myself. I'm curi...

Those look nice. But they're not expensive enough for me.

As I've been thinking about this more, I realize what I need: basically a 1 channel instrument preamp, with a 1/4" hi-z input on the front. Something like this: http://blacklionaudio.com/?p=2295. It would run into a Metric Halo 2882. Right now I use a passive DI. I have to crank the pre on the 2882...

I'm often in this boat (the "be quiet, we're trying to sleep here already!" boat). I'm on Logic X and I'm pretty satisfied with their sims. I've used the Tech 21 GT2 in the past as well. Those Joya pedals are intriguing--just nervous that they're built by enslaved 11 year-olds, but that's probably n...

I went with a Casio CDP-130. It's a full-sized (88 key) digital piano. Found a good deal on it. I'm not a piano player by any stretch of the imagination. But, to my exceedingly novice fingers and ears, it's a pretty great facsimile. It connects to the computer directly with USB (so no midi-interface...

I'm bouncing this ancient thread. My little Yamaha controller has two dead keys and I need a new one. I now have a 5 1/2 year-old and we want to get him at least experimenting with piano (and we don't want to pull the trigger on an actual piano yet). I was thinking something like this: http://www.mu...

I had the same events. I got the Equators (D5s). I'm a hobbyist, but I think these are much better than the events. The only downside is their super bright, blue LED. But I dimmed it with some tape!

Heh... former bass player in a touring band here. I built the 2 x 15 rig to overcome the output of the goddamn Fender Twin! But you're absolutely correct. Low stage volume usually equals good sound. We tried like hell to control stage volume. Success was pretty much determined by the following formu...

Sounds like analogika understands it better than I. All I know is that I'm waiting the for the details on the 3d upgrade, rather than upgrade to 2d (I had emailed MH about that, and they themselves said to wait).

If the box isn't "2d" (expanded), I don't believe you can use the monitor control. I have a 2882 + DSP, but it's not "2d." They're about to come out with some new thingy that upgrades the boxes (and, strangely to my mind, switches them from Firewire to USB2). I've been putting off upgrading to 2d, n...

I built the BYOC TS clone. It's pretty darn awesome and really darn awesome on bass. They now have a "Large Beaver" for bass that I'm tempted to try.

http://goo.gl/cviNvR I use the channel strip that's native to their console app (I have their interfaces). This production bundle comes with some extra stuff. But, I'm just a hobbyist and to be completely honest get a little lost with EQs and compression. I think, however, if you research a bit, you...

Not sure how much scratch you're willing to part with, but Metric Halo is having a sale right now:

If money were no concern to me, I'd get a ULN8.
