"Can't afford an Echoplex? Echo-Matic and a three head tape deck get you into action for less than $10 in parts." http://www.moosapotamus.net/IDEAS/Echo-Matic_a.gif http://www.moosapotamus.net/IDEAS/Echo-Matic_b.gif Yes! I've looked over that article once before, and it seems like a really great st...

Yes, I have had a lot of fun with creative routing of FX to get ambient, spooky, and whatnot type noises. This project is intended for live use, so I don't want to depend on a mixer to achieve the sound. However, I did want to have an insert point on this 'pedal' so that I could insert say, a distor...

So which IC will you be using? That I am not sure yet. I haven't looked into what is available. I was under the assumption that there is such a thing as an analog delay (sans tape). If you want a simple, one chip (or two) delay, you're looking at a digital one...like the chips from Holtek or Prince...

nclayton's post has brought a question to my mind. How different is it really to have the delay time controlled by an IC as opposed to a complete analog circuit as per the Echoplex? nclayton says using an IC chip will just be a digital delay add tape hiss. But honestly, how is it different? Do you t...

Ya, I think you guys do have a point about the break out box. Doing something like that wouldn't bother me at all. That's good advice too- allowing yourself to be flexible and dynamic with ideas. What was it about the wiring that gave it so much static? Really long wires? Input too close to output? ...

What I need to do is Google all the 3head tape decks I can find to figure out which models I'll be looking at. That's my starting point. Then from those decks, narrow it down to the ones that have a motorized head engagement. At that point, I should have a few decks with usable transports, and it wi...

I'm not sure about motor engagement... Can you explain what you mean exactly? On many decks the playback and record buttons are physically attached to levers that push the heads down onto the tape (engagement). On nicer decks the buttons are just electronic switches that, when pressed, start a moto...

LOL! The asexual magnetic tape 69. hahah That's what the pedal should be called. Believe it or not that brainstorm had popped into my head while making my last post to this thread. However, it goes against my desire to make this pedal easily recreated in case others would like one. Trying to keep th...

I have been looking into this also. One of the more complex things I have run against is making the space between the tape heads and the tape correct(don't think I'm putting that quite right...) Ya, I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean. Any way you can elaborate? Are you building your own ...

Hmm.... thinking... What if delay time was done using an IC? Basically using the tape transport for coloring the sound, instead of actually controlling the delay time. So, it would still be record head -> playback head, but the feedback loop would have an IC in the path to control the delay time. A ...

General Guitar Gadgets http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 They sell stomp box kits. Well, for the feedback loop, you would add a potentiometer to limit the amount of signal feed back through. As for when it is not in use, I would add a true bypass switch around the whole circuit. So the pot would basically be a volume control between the playback and record heads? How do I control...
