Re: protools and compatibitlity
Digi's compatability page is notoriously finicky about what it will call "approved". Personally, I like that - at least they're taking the time to actually do some real testing. So, not being approved simply means they haven't done the testing. If it had failed testing they would have posted it as t...

Uh-hunh - great article. Ain't youth wonderful! Interesting that he's now one of the main proponents of the "If it's not twenty-five years old and you jerks can't afford it - it sucks" school of audio processing gear. Don't I remember the Big Black albums defiantly recorded on PortaStudios with 57's...

I don't know which M1's you're refering to, as I know there have been a few incarnations over the years, Yeah - those would be the original M1 Actives, which I own. Bass was and is, for a long time, an adventure on these babies. I've mixed on them long enough that I know what's gonna happen, but ma...

Re: Your killer Digi 001 rig
Yeah . . . let's see, it was the day I sold it and upgraded to a 002. Seriously, for the 001 I got a decent pre (PreSonus MP20, the older one), an RNC, some decent mics, the Waves gold package and (the secret weapon) PSP's vintage warmer. Could you get better, well yeah, but could I afford it, well ...

Re: SANS AMP OR ....??
Whores indeed . . . (I'm sure there's some unpleasant joke lurking here but I'm just not comin' up with it right now). Still, isn't the TapeOp ethos using what you've got and making the best recordings possible? For a lot of us, well me at least, that's a 002 and some decent enough gear late night o...

My wife: If BigCats jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you jump too? Me: Aw shit, BigCats offed himself?!!? Man, he loved his ToneLab... It better be good! Oh man, I'm in trouble now . . . FWIW - the ol' Strat thru the box/VOX AC30 cab and amp/a lil' tube distort/a lil' tape delay - I'm a happy ...

Re: SANS AMP OR ....??
IMO the Vox ToneLab gets about as close as I've heard. It does the VOX thing better than anything else I've tried (I've also got a PODxt, Arenalinn & a Sans Amp BassDriver). New, the Tonelab goes for around $425 US. The POD's pretty useful - does some creditable Fender Tweed and BlackFace sims. The ...

Re: decent guitar processor / preamp?
Be aware the Korg and the other thing are both stand-alone tabletops. Neither come as rack mounts.
Paddy - I haven't used a Pandora in years. Did they do something to rid it of the infernal buzz it used to generate? What are they going for these days?

Re: decent guitar processor / preamp?
Yeah, the POD's probably the way to go. There are usually a couple of them on e-bay at any given time. The regular POD is NOT a rack mount, it's a stand alone kidney bean shaped thingy. The POD Pro is the rack mount and does lightpipe or 1/4" connections to your recorder/DAW, etc. That kind of sound...

Wow. That'll teach me. I don't check this board for two days and there's a three page thread on my original incoherent post. Go figure.Seej wrote:Im waiting for the mass suicide. Nuff said.
Seej - totally agree. I'd stay away from the grape kool aid if I was in that goofy choir they've got going.

Polyphonic Spree - WTF
Okay, we saw Bowie in Philly last week. Killer show. White Light/White Heat, Earl Slick, just great. But, The Polyphonic Spree opened which, before the fact, seemed okay - they seem like kind of a "critic's darling" band and I'm always up something new. However, midway through the first song the lit...

Re: who else does this?
Or even worse than that, knowing the gear can do something good for what you're trying to get done and not having the discipline to get past the exploring (f*ing around) stage and actaully integrating it into your work! I got an AdrenaLinn a couple of months back (marginal amp sims, excellent sound ...

Re: listening to your own songs
Speaking of the effigies i met the guitar palyer from the effigies at a show his son was playing in my town one time very nice guy. All right - I didn't nned to know that. I mean, I really don't need to feel that old. The idea of the Effigies guitar player having a kid in a band is just . . . well,...

Re: guitar player magazine
What I hate most about their magazine is there's a total lack of community -- instead it's just a bunch of marketing publishers on the one side, and the reader on the other. And your point would be? Sorry - couldn't resist. Yeah, it's a lot like Recording/EM/Home Recording telling how much the late...
