So I should grow a beard instead of getting that Focusrite preamp? Or should I get that too? What about a ribbon mic?

Okay, thanks!

i thnk they used guitars n stuff....

Actually, I heard a cool story about this. Apparently, Lange did not like the sound of the room they recorded in, so he mic'd everything close during tracking. Then at some later point he played everything back through the PA in a good sounding room and recorded that for "room sound".

Has there been anything done on Chris Walla yet?

Currently he has great records out by the Decemberists, Nada Surf, and Hot Hot Heat, not to mention his own group, Death Cab for Cutie, which he has been recording since their inception,

oh yeah...

since this is Tape Op, does anyone have info on La Bush's recording/work methods? I always envisioned her as some sort of home recording pioneer, with a big old Fairlight, and a bunch of other stuff in a reconditioned barn in the English countryside. Not sure where i got that idea from. Anybody got ...

diggin' it too, but....

there are quite a few instances of really horribly cheesy sounds (ala the "HEY"'s on 'Going Fetal') Is that something he does on purpose to be, like, ironic or something?

Enquiring minds wanna know!

Underground Pop ala Elliot Smith

Maybe like if Elliot Smith spent more time on a skateboard, cranking Cheap Trick and Boston. Of course if he hadn't been so troubled, his records wouldn't have been so Great. Would I trade my relatively simple childhood, my wife and kids, to make a record like his? To a great extent I don't think th...

Re: MIC REVIEWS

Has anyone tried the Ribbon Mic from Oktava? I think the model # is ML 52. They sell for $200 @ Gtr Ctr, and I am wanting to grab one, but was not overly thrilled with my Oktave MK219.

Re: Goddamnit, I'm singing flat.

dude, I used to have that problem SO bad! Another thing that really worked for me was to record w/o headphones at all, This is a pretty well know trick, and they always say to "position the mic dirctly between the speakers, and wire them outta phase...", but that's really too much trouble for me, I ...

My favorite recent releases include, The Wrens,Shins, New Pornographers, Long Winters, Death Cab for Cutie, Wilco, Elliot Smith... I...
