Clearly you should just hire me to mix your project. In all seriousness, it's a tough call. If you have the budget and really believe in the project, then working with a world class mix engineer is an opportunity that doesn't come around all that often. It might be worth going that route; mos...

UPDATE: I just had Scott (morespaceecho) do a test track for an album project I'm working on. It's the first time he's done anything for me, and while I did give him a little bit of direction I told him I was mostly interested in him doing what HE thinks sounds good. He knocked it out of the fucking...

Yeah, I agree having stereo subs makes sense. But keep in mind that a lot of the low frequency content of music (ie, kick drum, bass, etc) is mixed in mono most of the time. So even if the subs are in stereo, they will still effectively play in mono most of the time, esp if they are crossed over at ...

Yeah, adding 2 subs changes things quite a bit. Are they in mono? Stereo? What frequency are they crossed over at? Are the satellites crossed over? Here's the thing: when bass waves move around the room and interfere with each other it makes comb filtering. This is true with simple reflections from ...

Pods and ampsims in general are useful. I'd rather mic an amp where possible, if I have the amp I want to hear of course. The main benefit to me of such tech is its versatility. For a live rig it makes a lot of sense, unless you're the sort of player that only uses 2 or 3 sounds in a set. I do use a...
