Clearly you should just hire me to mix your project. In all seriousness, it's a tough call. If you have the budget and really believe in the project, then working with a world class mix engineer is an opportunity that doesn't come around all that often. It might be worth going that route; mos...

the Megaboard takes a while to load (has for at least a year or two now), but once loaded the site is OK.

UPDATE: I just had Scott (morespaceecho) do a test track for an album project I'm working on. It's the first time he's done anything for me, and while I did give him a little bit of direction I told him I was mostly interested in him doing what HE thinks sounds good. He knocked it out of the fucking...

Damn man. That sucks. So sorry to hear.

I wonder if the insurance company of the place that had the fire will cover your peripheral damage from their fire? Might be worth looking in to.

I just meant that it's common for low frequency sources (bass, kick drum, etc) to be panned center for these mixes. This essentially creates a mono low end, particularly when most/all of the other instruments have high pass filters on them (which is also very common).

Yeah, I agree having stereo subs makes sense. But keep in mind that a lot of the low frequency content of music (ie, kick drum, bass, etc) is mixed in mono most of the time. So even if the subs are in stereo, they will still effectively play in mono most of the time, esp if they are crossed over at ...

Yeah, I'd create a few spots with clouds. Probably a cloud directly above where the drum kit (usually) goes is a good place.

Yeah, adding 2 subs changes things quite a bit. Are they in mono? Stereo? What frequency are they crossed over at? Are the satellites crossed over? Here's the thing: when bass waves move around the room and interfere with each other it makes comb filtering. This is true with simple reflections from ...

If that was my room I'd use a cloud above the mix position for sure. That won't kill the reverb, but it will kill early reflections which will help.

Based on what you wrote my first call would be Brian Lucey at Magic Garden Mastering.

My second call (if Ludwig himself is out of budget) would be Adam Ayan, who started as Ludwig's protege at Gateway.

Pods and ampsims in general are useful. I'd rather mic an amp where possible, if I have the amp I want to hear of course. The main benefit to me of such tech is its versatility. For a live rig it makes a lot of sense, unless you're the sort of player that only uses 2 or 3 sounds in a set. I do use a...
