hmm, i've never noticed it changing as the ambulance/whatever comes closer, but maybe that's because it's more gradual?
anyway, thanks for the link.

i'm sure that setup in the right hands could sound pretty good and possibly great. i'd be more worried about most of that stuff breaking in about 6 months..

Re: affordable flat response headphones?
the beyer DT770s are the nicest headphones i've heard, although they run about $200 which might be too much for you. frequency response of 30k-5hz! (though i'm not sure how you'd even test that low end)

Re: don cab rocks
I just find it a shame that such talent goes unpaid and unnoticed for so long, there should be some sort of grant system or something, I mean these guys are one of many bands who toil in the club circuits for years and just kind of stay in the same tax bracket. i personally feel like that 'reunited...

Re: Big Jesus Trashcan (the birthday party)
'junkyard' blows all their other stuff away sonically and musically imo. the earlier records occasionally have that dead gang of four-ish ambience to them and the later stuff is too loungy/solo Cave sounding for me, but 'junkyard' rules. it sounds like an indestructable live band set up in a giant r...

i thought so too. there's a nasal quality to it that makes you wanna kill. the songs seemed pretty meandering and hookless too. i'm glad i didn't buy it.he sounds like a constipated michael stipe on this.

Re: 80's/Maiden sounding rock..
thanks for listening to those songs. i should mention that i didn't mix this, just tracked it. i took it to a friend's studio, uploaded it track by track to their Nuendo and let the singer/guitarist and engineer do their thing. i pretty much agree with all your mixing points actually: -they re-trigg...

80's/Maiden sounding rock..
i recently recorded a friend's band at my house on the trusty 'ol Br-8. they were breaking up and wanted to document leftover songs from their setlist. Dartanian  the songs are called 'just can't stop the rock' and 'a man named d'artagnan'... yeah.. anyway, tell me what ya think (despite th...

Re: math rock without showing your work..
'math rock' is the term applied basically to anything with lots of odd time signatures; anything from don caballero to jesus lizard to faraquet. it's very cheeky, but it comes in handy.. "hey, i think you would like my music. it combines the exaggerated dynamics of the 'Rite of Spring' but instead o...

Re: budget kick drum mic
i was just about to suggest those. i really like 609s for floor toms so i can imagine them sounding really good maybe an inch or two outside of the bass drum resonant head.Derrick wrote:Anybody tried the E609 or E609 Silver for kick??
