I was 16 in 1970, and Benson Sound was the local/hip 8-track room. I see that my friend Steve was wearing the "rad" pants from that era.
I also see plenty of fiberglass on the gobos....

Re: Console + amp buzz issue -- diagnostic process.
I guess the Trident has a transformer coupled output (or one closely emulating a transformer). Having "3/hot" to amp "low" would seem to me to reverse the polarity...ie, a kick drum will cause the speaker to "suck in" vs "thrust out".

Re: Console + amp buzz issue -- diagnostic process.
Can you describe the output circuit of the Trident in more detail? Pin 1 on an XLR is always chassis/ground. Pins 2 and 3 provide the actual signal.

Re: Some tape questions
Sorry...I used the word "automatic" when I actually meant "it's a given".
IOW, if you DON'T have a rigid procedure in place to back up a hard drive, you are inviting a disaster.

Re: Some tape questions
Cool...backups are an automatic with digi formats. Analog tapes can go "bad" over time, but seldom/never vaporize during a project.
I also have an issue with the alleged "poor performance" of analog tape vs digital.

Re: Console + amp buzz issue -- diagnostic process.
Not familiar with the Trident's output circuit, so I'm just throwing some ideas out. Is the desk and amp on the same AC power circuit? Assuming the Trident pin 3 is "hot" (old school, but very possible), did you try Trident 3 -> RCA tip and one of the following: Trident 2 ("cold") -> RCA ground OR T...

Re: Some tape questions
Firat some VERY basic info. A digital recording system can record frequencies NO HIGHER than 1/2 of the sampling rate, so at 44.1, the absolute highest frequency that can be recorded/replayed is 22.05 kHz. In reality, that absolute frequency will be a tad lower due to "real world" stuff. Of course, ...

Re: need advice buying 2-track recorder..
Otari MX-5050 machines were made by the jillions (and last I looked, were still listed as "available" at otari.com). Most ended up in radio stations or similar production studios, so many are available. Be Warned...radio station machines are typically beat to hell. Next thing, if you find one in OK ...
