The only other thing I could think of is to reseat the Rec/Play cards. AT YOUR OWN RISK! Sometimes re-seating or just giving them a jiggle can get thing going again. I have done this a few times when things have gone wrong with my 388s and it came back to life. They are located behind the VU meters....

Okay. After you're done your recording, switch the input selector switch to RMX. Then push the red L/R assign button. Make sure your master fader is up and all other push buttons are up, except the red L/R and you should hear audio. Okay. Upon viewing your vid, you didn't put it into RMX and you did...

Did you press the red L/R assign buttons upon playback? If not, you'll just be hearing the monitor signal, which will be lower in volume.
And are your heads clean?

I have had similiar problems like this pop up once in a while with my 388"s Your's sounds like a bad capacitor. Maybe on the channel 7 channel card. When my signal gets fizzy sounding like that, I find that if I give all the eq knobs on that channel a good twisting, the sound come back in clear. But...

There shouldn't be a problem with low level on your mic with the Tascam.
I have a 424mkII, 246 and 244 and they are pretty loud with the mics plugged straight in.And this is with a 57 or 58. I can get the needles to pin to the point where its too much volume.

Im not sure if you have had the bottom off the 388 yet,but there is a long PCB that runs alog all the channel cards.Carefully look that over and make sure it's seated properly on all cards.There are also alot of connectors in that area too.Make sure they're all connected tightly.
