Yeah, those QSC's are higher caliber than the JBL, Mackie, etc?s but they?re no less than $800. I need to stick to the $500ish range for new. Not many powered enclosures on the local craigslist, otherwise I?d love to go used.

Powered PA Enclosures?

I've lurked on the pro sound web forum and others, but I feel so much more comfortable here! I'm looking for an active/powered PA enclosure for vocal monitoring in a bandroom. Most of the newer powered enclosures double as monitor wedges. My search has yielded the following contenders - each conside...

All I gotta say is, I'm fine with the mic return policy as long as GG Allin remains dead.

Price Check on Martin HD-35 - Suspicious?

Guy on craigslist posted his 1989 Martin HD-35 ('herringbone' D-35) for $1200. Says its been lovingly used but not abused, no cracks, straight neck, etc. Photos look great. I'm super tempted as I believe his price is way below it's value. Seems like you can't find a used HD-35 or HD-28 under $1800. ...

Anybody ever play a Charvel Surfcaster? I think they were produced in the early nineties. Semi-hollowbody, if I remember correctly, and sort-of offset body style. Very retro-y. How expensive could a used Charvel be?

Have you considered an electric guitar? You could score a 'starter pack' from any banjo-mart for around $250. Electrics are easier to learn on, plus your daughter would likely better relate the sound of an electric to her favorite band, be it Jonas Bros or whatever - further inspiration to keep at i...

Find your self a H.B.E. Germanium or Germanium 44 used. in my experience they go well with VOX Tone I've looked into these a bit now - positive reviews all around, good sound clips, and much cheaper than all the other rangemaster clones out there - $110 at one online source! Tone shaping options to...

HBE Germanium, huh? Never heard of it, but I'll research that. Thanks for all the responses, btw. As far as 'retaining my tone,' I'm not worried about that. My Vox tone is articulate crunch with vox chime ? there is more preamp gain on tap, though I?m at 70% preamp gain, for those familiar with new ...

As a former 'half stack' guy, let me give you this piece of advice: for practice and live playing, a 2x12 is more than sufficient, and can be transported in the trunk of a Kia. And with only 2 speakers to worry about, you can afford better ones. Often praised around here, the Avatar speaker enclosur...

Booster or Treble Booster; Germanium or ?

Looking for something to simultaneously boost perceived db's and gritty-up an already overdriven tube amp, specifically a newer AC30. Primary function will be boosting lead lines. I play guitar in a 3 piece, and I'm trying to lessen the effect of 'something is missing' when transistioning from strum...

Perhaps a little too small, but doesn't ZVex make a little half-watt or 1-watt amp 'head' that is about the size of a stomp box? If it is even half as cool as everything else ZVex makes, then I'm sure its pretty cool.

Presonus HP-4 all the way! A little over $100, 4 channel, super loud and good-sounding, plus you get monitor outs and monitor level control, plus a 'mono' button.

I?m in the midst of the ?visit as many stores/play as many guitars as you can? phase before buying an acoustic. I usually bang around on a mid 90?s Yamaha that doesn?t record too badly. I?d like to buy a guitar that will be heirloom-worthy, but I?m having a hard time finding something that really sp...

This is very disheartening. I?ve been wanting to ditch my standalone korg DAW and go the laptop route. I thought selection would be easier than this. Do we really represent such a small niche that our particular needs have no influence on the manufacturers?
