I've never fancied myself an accomplished engineer. Just a musician who dabbles in recording. Last time I was buzzing around while the band was playing and I hit a spot that made me stop and think about putting a mic right around the corner from the hall way. Weird spot but the sound was so focused...

Cool shit! In addition to Scodiddly's suggested mic'ing, I'd try to capture a "down the hall mic" as well. Something well away and maybe "around the corner" from the room the band is in.
