Re: Rode NT1 vs. NT1a???
Yeah, I was hoping someone maybe had both mics and could give me a side-by-side comparison. I guess like most Rode mics they both come across pretty bright, which I suppose would be a good alternative to my 319. But I tend to record in rooms that aren't always really, really quiet, so I don't want a...

I'm using plug-in reverb (spin audio Roomverb M1), and I've found that by increasing the volume of the late reflections I get nice clarity between the original signal and the reverbed signal. Nothing too revolutionary, but maybe it'll help...

Rode NT1 vs. NT1a???
Can anyone give me a good explanation regarding the sonic differences between the Rode NT1 and NT1a? I'm looking at buying either, and need a studio workhorse mic, so hopefully I can get some good advice before purchasing...

Re: do I need mastering?
If you're interested, I'm looking to do some free mastering for people. I have a very basic digital setup - Sonar with Izotope's Ozone3 mastering software and Behringer Truth monitors, but I seem to get pretty good mixes out of it. Obviously, I won't guarantee studio quality masters, but it's free a...

Re: Which Tube Mic Preamps??
For my two cents (literally), I found the HHb/TL Audio Radius 50 tube preamp to be very respectable. It's single channel with a very simple, subtle compressor on it, and has done a fine job with my Beta 57 on a guitar amp, my Oktava 319 on vocals, my c1000 on acoustic guitar, and with my p-bass dire...

Yep, I'm in Claremont, about an hour from the the Massachusetts line and a half hour south of Hanover. It snowed last night, and I'm already tired of winter.

Anyone for some cheap mastering done at home?
Yes, yes, I know all the pitfalls of mastering at home. And I also know that there are lots of poor musicians and bands out there who can't afford even $500 for it. So...I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who wouldn't mind sending me some demos in stereo .wav files that I could practice digit...

Re: The gear thread for people with no gear.
Behringer Tube Ultra-Q two channel EQ...I took out the cheap Sovteks, put in some Groove Tubes, and it actually sounds fairly decent. And my midi controller...Casio all the way, baby. Behringer Truth monitors, Cakewalk Sonar2, and the best mic I've ever used...Shure Beta 57.

Re: Modnern wrock: what's "wrong?"
Here you go...the nu-metal formula... start with...one drummer who beats the shit out of the cymbals...all the time mix with...one bassist with a five-string and a pick add...one guitarist, or even two, and make that guitarist play the progression of root-minor sixth, in a different key for each son...

Re: Behringer B-2031 studio monitors - Any good?
Yeah, I've got a pair of the truth monitors and they are good, especially considering the price. It might just be where I place them, but I find them to be a bit heavy on the midrange and light on the bass, but then again, I haven't really tried to tune them up either (you have some room compensatio...
