Re: How many crappy albums have you bought?
Abot 10 or so. I usually listen to it at the music shop just to save myself from beating my head against the wall for buying yet another piece of shit cd. Remember Bob Moulds pst Husker Du travesty Sugar? I rest my case. I pulled them out a while back after not hearing them for about 6 years or so. ...

Re: Oddbal Microphones that kick ass
I have a Strasser M200, which is a rebranded Beyer M160 and a Fender 165 which is a rebranded AKG D12E, but with an on/off switch. Not odd I guess but a D12 witha Fender badge is kind of interesting. Also, Gefell Pm750. Kind of a Bob Barker loking mic. Make cool overhead mics.

Re: Cabinets, boxes and tolex
Try Vibroworld and Mojotone. Both have purple tolex. As far as the cabinet goes I would use marine ply baltic birch and use finger or dove tail joints. Indestructible. All of your high quality amps will be made from this stuff. Think ala Hiwatt (old not the newer Fernandes shit). That is why their c...

Re: Achtung Baby
I am not really a U2 fan, but I really like Achtung Baby. Usually Bono's voice drives me crazy, too breathy, but that album is a good one.

Re: Tape Echo's...
I had a mint RE201 I sold on Ebay a couple years back for $700. They are fetching a shitload of cash now. It might be worth it to buy the Fulltone and have a warranty.

Re: FS/FT HIWATT
Is it a DR103? What kind of condition is it in? Has it had any mods or is still stock ( were the repairs done to stock specs)? If it is in real nice shape $1200 is a fair price.

Re: tlm103 versus u195
Basically your ears will tell you what is working and what is not working for you. I am sure many people have used the TLM 103 with great success. It just never worked for me because I just record my own band and other projects I am involved in so it just did not work in any of the situations I was ...

Re: tlm103 versus u195
Buy the U195. It is great for bass amps and kick drums too. I had a TLM103 and sold it. Sounded like breaking glass. I hated it, but that is just my opinion. I would love to have a U195 for kick drum. Has the fat switch so in effect, two mics in one.

Re: How do I check a used RCA 77 mic? What am I looking for?
I would just plug it in to a mixer and see. Obviously make sure the phantom power is OFF. If the ribbon is shot it might distort or crackle a bit, or sound really dull. Stephen Sank refurbishes them. www.thuntek.com is his site. His Dad helped develop ribons for RCA so he has the chops to do it. I t...

Re: API Lunchbox Question
I once used a 6-slot API 500 series luncbox that had an external power supply and both XLR and TT (bantam) i/o jacks for each channel! Too cool. Anyone know where to find one of these or something like it? Neither of the three mentioned on this post have bantam and I agree that the newer API 6-rack...

Re: API Lunchbox Question
The new Averill ones are not made from original API parts anymore. Different op amps and everything. I remember looking at these a couple of years back, and they used to be made with API op amps ect..

Re: API Lunchbox Question
Thanks Kellyd. Build quality is definiteley an issue. Maybe that is why the new lunchboxes are cheaper in price than they used to be. I would rather buy something once and pay for quality than deal with something that may have to be fixed in the future. I will assess further.

Re: API Lunchbox Question
the logic behind my inquiry is that the new lunch boxes are significanly lower in price than they used to be. $650 CDN, for an 8-slot box and power supply, and Averill and OSA are not available up here, which means duty, exchange rates and shipping tacked onto the price. As far as modules go the poi...
