Cubase 5.1 Question
I'm borrowing my friends laptop with Cubase 5.1 to do some recording. While the pdf manual has been quite helpful there is one thing I can't seem to be able to figure out. If I forget to name a track, then record audio on it, the program labels it Audio___ (the ___ means insert any number in here fo...

Re: The Sherlock: A Level-Loc clone for $69
I apologize for the dumb question, I've never used a level-loc before, what does it sound like, is it just like a normal compressor so to speak except it uses mic signals instead of line levels or is there more to it?

Re: Snake Question
you need patchbays. quote] Patchbays I have, thats not a problem. All the outputs to my mic pres are on my patchbay, all my outboard gear is on my pbs and all the ins and outs except my mic pre inputs on my console are also on a patchbay. My question is what if you want to record in the control roo...

Re: Snake Question
dwelle I'm basically doing the same thing you. I just hate having the unplug my snake all the time. I'm constantly having to move it to this pre or that pre, to my console and back again. Do you think it would be wise to chop off the XLR connectors on one end of the snake and replace them with 1/4 t...

Snake Question
I'm not quite sure how to phrase this but I'll try my best. I have a 50 foot snake with 12 XLR cables and 4 1/4 cables. I don't have a real studio, just two seperate rooms, one for the control room and one for a live room. Anyway I run the snake out into the live room from my control room, plug the ...

Multimeter, soldering and making cables ??????
So I finally bit the bullet and instead of playing the guessing game while making cables I decided to get a multimeter so I could check my work. Anyway, after playing with it for a while I discovered a few things that in my own ignorance were a bit puzzeling. In the past, when making XLR cables I've...

Electronics - DIY
Got another question for you guys, thanks for all the help I've recieved thus far, I don't know what I'd do without a place like this. For sometime I've been wanting to get into the whole DIY thing to build a few simple things, nothing to complex just some basic pads, phase reversal boxes, maybe a g...

Re: Electronica Rock drums
I just read over my last post and I didn't think I was very clear, basically my digital editing capabilities are kinda lacking and I've been having difficulty chopping up my samples and then piecing them back together into anything that resembles a drum beat. So any guides or recommendations you can...

Re: Electronica Rock drums
I think the main problem for most of what I'm doing is my drum programming abilities. I've tried some of the tricks you guys have mentioned and in terms of getting cool drum sounds they have been a huge help. I've just never programmed drums before, I usually just track real drummers, once in a whil...

Re: Electronica Rock drums
Thanks so much for the tips I'm gonna go try them out. Any suggestions on patterns, I'm so used to doing variations on the whole kick on the 1 beat, snare on the 3rd beat with 1/4 note high hat hits and the occasional fill. I think I figured out the Lips snare drum roll aka marching band kinda beat ...

Electronica Rock drums
I have a friend who wants to record some rockish synthy songs, the problem is I have no idea how to go about doing the drums. Most of what I've done in the past and the majority of the stuff I play and listen to features acoustic drums played by real drummers. Although I'm not much of a drummer I ha...

Re: Altec Mic Pres
meblumen, I know I'm probably being stupid but from the picture (and granted it was hard to tell) I couldn't see any of the pins being labeled so are they or how do I know which pin is which? Joey, are those mixers any good? They sound interesting but I think right now I would rather build something...

Altec Mic Pres
I just saw some Altec mic pre input transformers on ebay which I'm thinking about picking up. My question is, how do you go about hooking them up. They have an 8 pin configuration on them and I know they need obviously need to be hooked up to a power supply, a 1/4 or xlr output and a xlr input but h...
