This might be a long shot but I'd try pulling the mic back or at least add a second mic. Maybe try a ribbon, or a bi or omni polar pattern? Are you compressing at all on the way in? Maybe don't go crazy just a little to get more gain without clipping. On female (non-operatic) vocals I've preferred a...

For sure go used, you get so much more for your money...not to mention that if you decide to sell you probably won't lose much money. Buying decent mics to begin with (I would avoid buying lots of cheap "off" brand mics) is certainly a better philosophy to start with...which doesn't mean you have to...

I am personally not big on multiple mics on the same guitar part, usually sounds weird to me or phasey. Though I almost always double (as in truly perform the track twice, not copy paste). For your application and limited mic selection I would focus on getting one mic to sound good rather than strug...

Well that's a fair price for a 388 in a fixer-upper condition. Perhaps he thought that the machine was supposed to record a to "bicycle chain" instead of Ampex 467. ?? I have bought 2 388s in the past year for $350 each... One has slow rewind, and one sometimes has trouble with the transport. Both ...

Well if you are okay with looking at cheap Macs on eBay...you can easily find an original model Intel Mac for under a grand, and it ought to run circles around a G5 and last you a lot longer. Most of the G5s only have PCI slots and obviously you can't be on the latest OS, which some newer software r...

It's a matter of companies developing products for said future interface... But then why would they develop the product if computers aren't equipped with it? Someone like Apple needs to bite the bullet and deem it standard like they did with USB, but if PC manufacturers don't catch on (like FireWire...

WTB: Pro Tools HD1 or HD2 PCI
I have a G5 tower looking to see if anyone is trying to unload some PCI HD cards and possibly an inexpensive I/O option. Would like to buy as a package but may buy pieces also.
