Actually, the ad blocking didn't make the avatars show up. That was just a coincidence. I actually fixed the problem at the same time. (See my post above.) I can see how the wording of my post, combined with my lack of special moderator status, could have made it seem like I just fixed it for myself...

Here's the deal with the avatars... Our web host spontaneously changed some configuration settings that made avatar resizing stop working. We could enable them again, but some of the avatars are huge and would screw up the whole layout of the forum. I'm working on a fix for it, because I love the av...

I think I fixed the problem. The thread should be working fine now. The problem was caused by xSALx's avatar, which is an image hosted on facebook.com. You have to be logged into facebook in order to view these images, and this causes the board to choke. From now on, if your avatar is not accessible...

MTC Drumshop / Cake Snare Drums (Williamsburg)
Does anybody know what happened to this store? As far as I can tell, it just dropped of the face of the earth. It was there a couple of months ago, and now the store is empty and the phone is disconnected. Out of business? Or did they move?
is there any way to get Cake snare drums anymore?

I really like http://www.dougstubes.com/. Doug is really helpful and knowledgeable, and he has a lot of great tubes in stock.

New Album
My band (Penelope) just released our new album called Perennial. http://www.penelopemusic.com I recorded and mixed it all myself. Everything I know about recording I learned from TapeOp magazine and lurking around this board. Mastered by Garrett Haines at Treelady. I would obviously have done a lot ...

Looking for an Electrician in Brooklyn
Can anyone recommend a licensed electrician for some very minor electrical work? We are looking to add a couple of isolated-ground circuits to our rehearsal space. I am tempted to do the work myself, but I am intimidated by New York City building codes. I would prefer someone with some experience wi...

Recording in a church: What should I do?
My band has recently been lucky enough to get our hands on a very unique rehearsal space: the choir loft of an old church. The church itself is pretty big, and our space is the 1000 sq. ft. balcony in the back. The balcony is high up yet open, and it looks out over the pews and towards the altar / r...

I second the 269 Electronics recommendation. 269 Canal Street btw. Broadway and Lafayette. It is not a "boutique" electronics store, but they have a wide selection of useful parts, including all kids of weird jacks. You might be able to find your part there. I agree that you probably don't want to r...
