Kyuss, especially Sky Valley is fantastic. Whitewater is a very strong track.

the drum sound is killer, I believe it was a 24" ride, and some massive shells.

Blue

I think I read that the Mouse was intended as a broadcast mic, it is interesting to hear how much people like this mic Thought to Canadians, I was just at steve's, all the blue mics are nicely priced. You can bet the next batch is going to be exoensive since the Canadian dollar has dropped. I picked...

Book : This is your brain on Music : Daniel j. Levitin

I am putting this in the "listening to music" forum because I think that is closest to what the book deals with. I actually just started reading this, it is really good so far. There is also an audiobook that I am told has some musical demos, but I don't think it is as complete as the hard book. The...

Hardcore Logo - documentary about a fictional band, like spinal tap, not as funny well, 'This Is Spinal Tap' didn't have nearly the same degree of brutality and tragedy in it, for one. we're apples and oranges here. I don't remember much about Hardcore Logo, but is it was worse than the flaming dru...

I noticed the same thing. I like the sound of vinyl -> mp3 more than cd->mp3. I don't know exactly why, but punchier, brighter, better seperation. It is like micing an amp instead of DI with guitar.

Hardcore Logo was already mentioned, and I was thinking about it when I read the original post. In the 90's, Bruce Macdonald was making all sorts of great indie films with Canadian talent including Don Mckellar and Sandra Oh. Many of them had musical undertones including: Roadkill - 'gotta make the ...

That basement show must have been pretty magical. I'm pretty well versed from Clouds Taste Metallic forward - what is an essential 'earlier' Lips album? I think In a Priest Driven Ambulance is a watershed record. Also, 'transmissions from the satelite heart' was very good. a couple radio cuts on th...

I haven't done it, but I sometimes have the urge to use the bass drum as the key input for the guitar rhythm track compression. If I were really into it, I might make a whole new track with BD hits on every beat that was used for this, but not part of the mix.

some indy lables have stuck by it the whole way (touch and go, cargo, Kranky, Matador, etc) I think the USB tables in costco that people buy to transfer their old collections have something to do with this. the same sort of thing happens in camera, everybody is buying a new DSLR for their old lenses...

Much of the early offsping sounded borrowed, although I can't remember them all, 'come out and play' was alot like nirvana love buzz.

First song on the first garbage begins with a ripoff of Only Shallow (my bloody Valentine)

No ideas for the Band of Horses request, but I really like that album

bridge

I like this topic. One bridge I always hated was 'the good in everyone' - Sloan. perhaps it is more intro/outro, but I think it sounds forced. I do like the bridges of the skate rock scene, like Seaweed, Pennywise, green day, although usually formulaic. Styx - come sail away. Oh yeah! Smashing Pumpk...

Any other Whole Foods beans drinkers out there? Yes. Well, I used to be. My 2cents Cream, if you are going to use it, get the best. 10% should be alright, no need for the 18% like timmy's Grinder, Burr Mill. The difference between the $15 spinning blade and the burr mill is bigger than the spinner ...
