I've used a Soundcraft 200b. I've also used one of the old Tascam M series mixers (can't remember which one). Both would be in your price point. Of the two I would probably choose a 200b. Better eq (especially if it has the sweepable mid band), external power supply and modular channels (easier to w...

I think it has less to do with "what I want to hear" and more to do with "what will work for me in my studio" which doesn't have a computer in it, but thanks for the reply.

Urie 565-good for removing tape hiss?

A question for people who have used one of the Little Dipper notch filters. I am out of the box and wondering if this would be a useful unit for removing tape hiss?

Any other OTB suggestions for doing this would be appreciated! Thank you!

Keeping Reels on Decks

For the folks who use tape...do you keep your reels on your decks if you know you will be going back to the same song when you get back to the studio? I am not a pro so I run into this scenario all of the time. Is there any drawback to keeping reels loaded on the deck hubs other than the difficulty ...

I'm not sure where you are located but Fred Kevorkian in NYC is a good person to call. I worked on a record that was mastered by him and was able to sit in the room while he did it. I remember sitting there thinking "It will never sound better than it does right now in this room through these speake...

That's a great example. I also think of Bowie's singing on Low where he doesn't sing actual words...more like chants.

The Burrough's cut-up method is fun to try too. Leaving things to chance can sometimes take the pressure off from "having to come up with something clever".

Song lyrics don't HAVE to rhyme. You don't even need to use real words, or you can use words from other languages.

Rewriting is just as important as writing.

That's all I have.

Not off topic at all. Thanks for the input!

I'm scouting for a multi-pattern ldc. I love the idea of the old c414 with the brass capsule, but the Peluso looks like it might be good alternative. Sony c-48 might be a contender, as well.

Akg isn't making that capsule any more. I'm asking if the limited shelf life of the old brass capsules makes spending 2 grand on a 414 eb a bad idea.

AKG c12 capsule

What's the consensus on the shelf life of these? Are the mics with these brass caps worth their asking prices?

Where else to look for other quality multi pattern ldc mics?

Nice build! Amps sound so much better when they aren't sitting on the floor.
