Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

So yeah... I'm pretty late to the party on this, but I got a Pair of NS-10s and a Hafler amp to run them.

So far — so good.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I haven't 100% acquired this yet, but my buddy just 3D printed a set of Universal Audio UAD-2 Satellite rack brackets for me. Someone else created a set of downloadable plans, so we tried them out. Can't wait to try them out. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52831766087_0ab58471b6_c.jpg Here's a ...

Having used this exact combo myself, I can say the Bryston's made those monitors a lot more tolerable.
Duly noted! I’m gonna start simple and see if I can eventually justify something more significant behind them. I’m likely to start with the used Haflers.

I used to use a Rotel RB1080
Nice! I'll do a little reading on these — that said Larry's recommendation is kinda more in the price-range I was hoping for.

Re: What amp are folks putting behind NS-10Ms?

a cheap Hafler amp that works fine. Hafler Trans-Nova P-1500. Thanks! That's exactly the kind of amp I had in mind... just didn't have anyone who'd been able to speak to them. I previously had Hafler Pro2400 amps running my big home stereo speakers, and they were great other than having an audible ...

What amp are folks putting behind NS-10Ms?

Just snagged a pair of NS-10Ms cheap enough that, if I hate them, I can re-sell and probably make a few bucks.... For the moment, they're actually going to be bookshelf speakers, hooked up to a home stereo... but I'm curious about eventually putting them in the studio as near-fields. I googled "what...

Looking for a computer-keyboard solution (shelf / arm)

Is anyone else working in a home studio / writing room with a similar lack of ergonomics? I am gonna be working in this space for the next year+ while I shop for a new house (which is where I'll finally do a proper build)... but for now, I need to be able to work (even if only for writing and small ...

Re: Best interface to build your singer/songwriter workflow around

The focusrite units are DEFINITELY solid... the drivers are great & the sound is totally good. That said, I cannot say enough good things about the UAD apollo twin | x that I'm using now. I was forced to temporarily downsize from my much bigger home rig and now I'm using the apollo, and it sounds gr...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Grabbed a new computer & a used Interface: So... due to a move, I had to essentially break down the whole home studio and find a way to work with the smallest footprint possible. All my big-boy gear is safely packed away, awaiting the home studio to eventually assume it's final-form, but for now I'm...

Re: Underwhelmed by ATMOS music (So far)

I think maybe the real opportunity for atmos music is in cars. I'm not sure — Again, the "impact" (volume) isn't really the same as stereo mixed music, so I feel like a lot of nuance would be lost to road noise. Granted, the cars most likely to implement would be luxury cars with better noise-suppr...

Re: Vid19 (it's still out there) and your ears?

anyone else have a similar experience and did it go back to normal? Nearly identical experience / went fully back to normal… but it wasn’t actually Covid in my case. I had Covid over the summer (after full vax and my Oct 2021 booster). Got 2nd booster in Oct ‘22, and around thanksgiving I felt VERY...

Re: Underwhelmed by ATMOS music (So far)

2. The Apple version of Atmos on their earpieces is HORRIFICALLY BAD. It is nowhere near what the mixer and artist did. A-FUCKING-MEN — it really does sound like utter dog-shit, in my experience. I was mowing the lawn, this fall, and I put on Faith No More's "The Real Thing", and I gather that they...

Underwhelmed by ATMOS music (So far)

So, I just came back from our town's local ultra-hi-fi showroom... these folks are the tops in home theater & hi-end audio installations (around here anyway), and my goal was to listen to some ATMOS music playback on a really nice system in a really nice room, and (hopefully) be blown away in the sa...

Re: A 1-mic drum recording has me rethinking so many things

Sounds good! It doesn't not sound like 1-mic but anything that makes us rethink things is worth its weigh in gold. It doesn't sound lo-fi or dirty, which is no easy trick with one mic. Thanks! Yeah, it’s not like a Steely Dan recording or anything… but very very usable. The drummer recently bought ...

At some point I'll be installing Apple Server on it
What is drawing towards using MacOS Server? It was discontinued last year, and pretty badly reduced in scope over the last 10yrs.
