Re: hybridists unite!

I really enjoy music that uses electronic elements for the distinct SOUND of electronic elements. I'm really not very fond of music where they try to trick you into believing that the electronic sounds are actually "organic" (non-synthetic) sounds. My rule is that if I'm using electronic drums, I w...

From the close top mic you get the detail and from the mic further away you get more of the ring and sense of well, power ...

Is that true? Really? I did not know that. That's maybe coming across sarcastic, but no, i'm really and truly surprised.

Re: Reslo Ribbons in the UK.

I must say it's nice to have a UK tape-opper who isn't over a hundred miles away on the board for once. :D Absolutely! Don't know if you're into this, but as you're in the area, there's a night of experimental-type things going on in Hackney on 29th at the 291 gallery. It's a launch for a low-level...

Re: Mic's for recording guitar.

Pretty usual stuff, but I generally use a 57 up close and whatever omni's available to capture the rest of the room. Bit of ambient micing never did any harm round this way.

Re: Effects over-rated?

Yeah, is it an age/experience thing? Probably. I'm only tending to use them as and when they're really needed or whatever now, whereas a few years ago it was effects agogo. I'm much more into a more natural organic sound these days too. It's really nice to hear a bunch of people playing their instru...
