I want to phase out my minidisc and use my nomad jukebox 3 to record live gigs, but it requires a powered mic.
It would be cool to get something that sounded good and might even come in handy for "real" recording in the studio.
Thanks!

Re: Need recommendations for an acoustician in SF Bay Area!!
Thanks.
Chips looks great, but is perhaps so legit that he's out of my price range. This will be miles from a world-class studio, more of a nice simple home studio (soundproof, etc), but I'll certainly contact him.
Other suggestions would be most appreciated.

Need recommendations for an acoustician in SF Bay Area!!
I've got a workshop I'm about to rebuild to be a dedicated recording/listening space and I want to do it right. I'm looking for someone to help me pick the design, materials, etc.
Thanks for your recommendations!

They don't pop up that often, but I'm LOVING my musicman/ernie ball Sabre. Very similar to a stingray, but with another pickup and a lot more versatility. Sounds great direct.
Also love my fender a/e.

Why can't I monitor with my home stereo gear?
I know you're not supposed to, but don't really understand why.
I've got thousands invested in a very good home stereo system, why can't I run a line into the AUX and monitor there?
Thanks for your patience!

Re: London Calling engineering notes and kick drums
Yo, man, thank you SO MUCH for passing on that article; it made my day.
18 hours a day 7 days a week? DAMN, no wonder it's one of the best albums of all time!
I like the idea for the tape op feature mentioned. I suggest:
London Calling
Who's Next

Please recommend a headset mic
I'm going to be doing some street performing and don't want to hassle with a mic stand while I play the guitar. Are there any headsets that are decent? I'll probably be playing through a little fender taxi battery amp (which sound surprisingly good, btw).
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Is this a smart way to spend $5000?
Thanks for all the good advice. You're right, Professor: holding off until I have at least a clue is probably a good idea. By the end of the year I will have the studio in a dedicated space (a detached garage which may be rebuilt from the ground up) and I'll have at least a basic idea of what I'm do...

Re: Is this a smart way to spend $5000?
Hi Professor-- Thanks for your thoughts. First of all, g4 dual 1.25 is now available refurbished from apple for 1399, lcd monitor adds 700. This will be a home studio, mostly for personal use. I'll be recording live multi-track and doing overdubs for solo projects. I'll be recording a lot of acousti...

Thanks for the replies so far.
I wanted the 002 for the control surface (get so tired of using a mouse) and to use as a standalone mixer.
What are some other recommendations to improve my mic pre's and a/d?
Thanks!

Is this a smart way to spend $5000?
I'm trying to keep my studio budget at around $5K (before mics and effects) and I've come up with the following: Digi 002: $2000 Mac G4 dual 1.25 and monitor: $2000 Presonus digimax 96k: $1000 I've already bought the 002, so that's fixed; I'm especially wondering about the presonus. My reasoning is ...

Please recommend books to help me learn more about recording
I've been a fulltime musician for years and have dicked around in the studio, but now I'm finally building a decent home system and I'd like to learn how to use it. I'm using a digi 002 and am building a mac system around it. I'm looking for books which explain the whole recording process in languag...

Recommendations for monitors (new or used) $500-1000?
Active would make life simpler, I suppose, but is not a requirement. Digi 002 system. I'll be recording all styles of music, but a lot of it will be acoustic instruments. I'd like something natural sounding that errs on the warm side to minimize ear fatigue. I typically buy used, but if it was a rea...

Re: Should I get a G5 or G4 to go with my new 002?
Thanks for the replies, fellas. This will ideally be a dedicated system for the 002 LE system. I don't want to get more machine than I need. I know that my ibook G3 600mhz isn't up to running lots of tracks with plug-ins, but I'm not sure at which point in the mac spectrum I'd have all the machine I...

Should I get a G5 or G4 to go with my new 002?
I'm going to put together a dedicated computer system and my G3 laptop won't cut it. Should I get a dual G4 or wait for a G5? Which of the G4/G5s would be the best price/performance ratio for a dedicated Protools system?
Thanks!
Thanks!
