never even heard of the nova, so i don't know on that one. re: the solaris - that,s the bells and whistles (patterns and pad) version of the luna, right? if so, i might grab one sometime - i did indeed make the trade, and my main complaint is that the luna is cardioid only. i've had it a few months ...

okay, see, exactly my point: you were able to take one look at those specs and say "this one maybe, this one not so much" - and while i expected the little toob thingy to be called the better bet, why? what are some important #s and dircuit types and whatever to look for? put it another way, while i...

okay, so i,ve been doing some looking: here is one based on a 12ax7 for a bill...but will it work for i want to do? i dunno how to tell. and, what's the gain? this one is some little solid state job, don't know how much gain again. output 50 ohms, it says - that number just doesn't sound familiar, d...

c.b. as mic pre?

okay, let's see if i can get this straight: 1) the other day i was in rat shack poking around, and looked at their c.b.s simply for the "hmm, shiny pots" factor...and i realized these things are just channel strips attached to a transmitter. pre/post gains, "dyna" (compressor?), tone, squelch (just ...

heard a track the other day with two organs panned hard. they had the beat machine just loud enough it barely clicked in the sound, and you could probably do some cool compression tricks around that to make notes waver ... anyway, by the end of the take drift had set in, but it was cool cos the melo...

so, hmm, i've been mulling this one over whenever i've not been cramming finals, and i got one of them hypothetical situations. It goes like this: Say you've got a room. and that room is 12x20x22. and a 2piece cowpunk band is singing and squonking and making the boomboom snappy in that room, and tha...

Two overheads, usually pencil mics, in a matched pair, cardioid, with one at a measured distance over the snare, high enough to catch the crash cymbals (usually 5'-7'), and the other at that same measured distance to the side of the floor tom, at the same level as the top of the snare. /snip/ Room ...

+1 on the AT Pro 37 - just so many ways to make this mic work well in simple setups - like over the snare in the recorderman setup, or overhead w/ 57s under the snare and inside the kick, or in the heart of a kit w/ a 57 overhead and a headphone outside the kick...hell, using those three you've got ...
