Re: 12v phantom power
A lot of old Neumann mics were T-powered as well. U77, KM76, ect. I believe that German Broadcast standards implemented T-power because it resulted in more quiet mic operation. Less RF noise. I could be mistaken though.

Re: B.L.U.E. Ball & Robbie
I have never used any Blue products, but their lollipop capsules that fit onto old AKG 451 bodies is interesting me. A lot of their products seem to be designed with pure aesthetics in mind. Who cares if the Robbie looks good. It has to sound good, and I am skeptical of that. They put all the money ...

Re: Where to buy Fairchild?
The Chandler TG compressor/limiter is supposed to be the bomb. I think it is priced around $3200. It is made exactly like the original EMI TG console comps/limiters.

Re: New Telefunken M14 mic.
I think I saw it for $2995 not that long ago on thier site? Anyway, $2200 is way better. I have never seen any reviews of this thing either. It was between the M14 or a Soundelux U99. Different mics but in my price range for a vocal mic.

Re: Steve Albini Drum Sound?
I don't think he actually charges that much. I read in some interview with him somewhere that he only charges $400 a day to engineer. Not sure what the studio costs to rent for the day but it could be only $800 a day for the studio and Albini. Could be the best $800 a day you could spend. I am going...

New Telefunken M14 mic.
Anyone try one of these out? It is supposed to be a cardioid only version of their C-12 reissue, with the same 6072a tube. $3000 is pretty steep though. I want a real nice vocal mic.

Try Mojotone at www.mojotone.com. They seem to have a lot of stuff and might be able to help. Also try vibroworld.com and antiquelectronics.com too.

Re: Ripped off on EBAY: Is there something to do??
Burn, Montreal aint to far from Detroit. Go kick some Dearborn ass and leave a burning bag of dog shit on his front door step. It really bugs me when people get scammed on ebay. I got ripped once. Bought an old mic that was supposed to be working. It was not, although the item description daid fully...

If it is as good as the R84, I am in! I think it has a lot less proximity effect than the R84, but I could be wrong.

Re: The Multivox Amp
Old amps need to be recapped more often than not. That should be a cool piece of gear. Any competent tech could probably do it for a fair price. Put in some nice old nos tubes and you are set. I assume it is a tube amp? those pld obscure pieces of gear, guitars, amps ect. can be the jem of a recordi...

Re: Hot Snakes, hot sweat pants.
It wasn't meant to be about their age, it was about the fact that they were so fucking amazing that I forgot about my obsession with microphones and shit. I just brought up the age thing because they started off slow and seemingly uninterested, and it reminded me of when I saw Kiss that one one tim...

Re: Hot Snakes, hot sweat pants.
This thread is retarded. I just saw Hot Snakes in Seattle on Monday and they rocked the jam session raw. Best show I've seen in a while. I don't get the sense that any of those guys give a fuck about what age they are. Who cares if Ries weighs more than he did in '95? That guy has more rock in his ...

Re: Sennheiser E609 Mic
I just bought one of the E609's. I am still waiting for those UPS assholes to fix their screw up. I bought it off ebay and it never showed up. Ups lost it. The second time around the mic arrives in under a week (Yay!) but when I openned the box the thing was bent to shit and almost in two pieces. Un...

Re: Hot Snakes, hot sweat pants.
I am 33 years old. I may be old to some but I can still rock with the 18 year olds and keep them coming back for more. I play drums with more ferocity than I did when I was 15. I love the Snakes and would give my left nut to see them live. the good thing about us old rockers is that we feel the musi...
