Opto compression is in general a little slower and smoother. It's very useful and works on a lot of sources. Sometimes I want the compressor to 'grab' quicker and more obviously. I would guess the difference would be subtle. The wood will have a fairly thick finish on it and that will impede the sound of the wood itself.

Is Sound on Sound mergin with some other studio? Right Track maybe? Are they going to run both businesses from one space?

Do they have to be mounted in the wall? I'd go with stands because designing the proper soffit is not easy, I have been told.

For an acoustic and voice together I often use a figure 8 for the vocal. It keeps the guitar out of the vocal nicely. Then I have some options with compression, EQ and even effects.

Sometimes I get one mic so it works of both sources nicely and record that way.
