All of my mics fall in this category, this is my limited opinion of them: AT Pro37 - Just got this after a lot of research. Really like it, but I guess I'd have to hear it side by side with an SM81 to say if it's that great. Oktava MK-319 - Bought this almost 10 years ago from GC for $200 not even k...

to clarify, i have a glyn johns-esque setup that works really well most of the time, but every once in a while i'll have something completely wrong and not notice how bad it is until all the mics are taken down.

my problem was already touched upon. i record in an attic that also serves as my band's practice space... i have very limited gear, so whenever i want to record a drum track, i have to set up all the mics. usually i'll be so eager to lay down the track that i don't spend much time on placement at all.

I bought the Operation Ivy cd this past weekend, and man was it a throwback! I was introduced to them in 1989 on the "Hocus Pocus" skate video from H-Street. I actually don't think their stuff was poorly recorded, but it reminded me of all the other stuff I listened to in high school. A lot of earl...

i don't know any of the makes/models of the gear there already, this thread was more for me to get an idea of whether i should contact some folks to see if making this happen is even worthwhile/doable... which after what i've heard thus far, it's very feasible. and InvalidInk , wtf would cause your ...

pats rules! (i presume that's where you're talking about) - best shows i've ever had in cleveland. think more loft space/basement/DIY shows for others - band sets up on the floor... vocal only PA. awesome bartender/people. people have to walk through the band playing to go to the bathroom.... it ru...

ok, this might sound really dumb/impractical, but would work for a place like this... is there a compressor out there that has no knobs, controls, or apparent way to bypass it without unhooking it? if i help this place, i want to help put something in place that will at least give their speakers a f...

If they were to insert a knowledgeable sound guy into the signal chain that'd improve things tremendously. well, we all know this, but this is the kind of club that has been working against the odds forever, anyway. the old woman who runs the place is essentially the only employee, scraping by on s...

You want to patch the main outputs of the console into the inputs of a compressor or limiter then the outputs of the comp/limiter into the appropriate amp input(s). Without it something a simple as the single dropping the mic or the drummer smacking one of the drum mics could blow the speakers. i a...

...with their sound system. i only play there every once in a while, but every time i have a gig there, solo or with a band, their p.a. tweeters are always completely blown. i know they had one system last time i played (2005) and have since replaced it, but the tweeters on this new rig are also blo...

they're selling a cd-r of a 'live in the studio' set of the songs their doing on this tour, it sounds GREAT. if anyone has any of the details of the recording, i'd love to hear about them, especially since the recordings were apparently made less than a month ago and i'm already listening to mixed/...

To elaborate, the way Grado headphones are set up is kind of unique, in that they don't shield out outside noises at all, making the headphones sometimes sound like you don't have them on at all, but rather are playing music on speakers in a relatively quiet room. If there are any sound effect/field...

Surprising no one mentioned Grados. I have some SR60's that are great, but in your range you could go one or two steps higher than that.
