Re: For the parents on this board: Logistics question
My son's almost 5, and while it was a bit tough when he was younger, lately I found it a lot easier to spend time recording without feeling guilty or frustrated. He's old enough now he'll be in the room with me when I'm recording and will play, read his Star Wars schematics book, or play with the ke...

Peter Allway's Lego Dulcimer
Anyone hear the piece on NPR about building instruments completely from Legos? I'm thinking the hardest part is convincing my son to give up the parts. But it actually sounded pretty good.
If anyone's up for a group buy on Legos, let me know.
edit: Here's the link.

Guitar Wolf. Everything.
And I realized I still listen to the Poster Children's "Flower Plower" more than a lot of rock records from that era. Anytime I get on an analog high-horse, I listen to that band and give props to digital.

sserendip's point, though, is that Macs are secure only because they're not a worthwhile target. Hackers hack because they want to watch their viruses make the news, and viruses only make news when they shut down businesses and make people lose money. It doesn't matter if Macs had 49% of the busines...

Re: A couple of questions about the Tascam TSR-8
NAB and IEC are two different equalization standards. NAB is the old school way, from I think the mid-'60s. It's basically the same equalization standard used to calibrate machines that ran at 3.75 ips. I'd stick with IEC, as any tech who's up on his books will use IEC, too. It doesn't make a whole ...

I've run a bunch of stuff through Virtual PC with hardly a glitch. But for anything that could crash and lose music I stick to native OS. W/ Virtual PC running, I get a little slowdown and temp monitor goes up from a max temp of 48 C to 55 C or so. I'm running it on a dual 1 GHz G4 w/ OSX.

Re: Do snakes shit?
I was helping a guy w/ cover art for a CD, and he needed some images that (in his words) "show pets versus wild animals." One google led to another, and, long-short, tonight we're having vegetable lo mein. But, yeah, the Netherlands. I'm not sure if I think it's a good thing or a bad thing. Now Denm...

I'm in for one, and would willingly front cash to buy 2, then deliver the second to anyone around NYC, downstate NY or northern Jersey. If anyone's in on a split, let me know.
Now it's prob'ly 142.
