FWIW: I took delivery of a CM Storm Trigger and it's the shit. Heavy built like a tank. Nice dim light. Cherry blue switches nice n clicky. Heaven.

$59 @ NewEgg (well, if the rebate comes through)

Never thought I'd spend so much on a keyboard but its --so--- much more pleasant.

LOL. I actually bought that one. Twice. Returned it twice. It is absolutely PERFECT in every respect except one... It has the worst action I have ever experienced. And I am the least picky guy I know. But I literally could not tell when I had pressed a key or not. No click, no 'boing', no -nothing- ...

Inexpensive Backlit Computer Keyboard?

Looking around for a decent backlit computer keyboard. Everywhere I ask, people are think it's a stupid request or I'm some kinda gamer. But my studio is dimly lit ('lava lamps') which doesn't seem that unusual (I like it). The only thing that would make it perfect would be if I could see the keys. ...

Re: Troubles With BSS AR-133 D/I

Sorry for the terminology. I'm not using a battery... it's getting it's power from the mic pre (digimax). Like I said, I got it because -everyone- recommended it... specifically for use with basses of all types. When I use the Proco passive DI it -seems- OK. I'm wondering if the 'pad' just isn't in ...

Troubles With BSS AR-133 D/I

Hi, Possibly a noob question, but I recently purchased a BSS AR-133 after numerous recommendations. Using with an upright bass with a piezo pup. I'm having a bad time of it, The BSS thing has 3 impedance settings but none of them seem -right- for the bass pup I'm trying to use (piezo). One position....

I agree with this 100%. I am not a pro. I play well, but that's not the same thing. Given enough beer, my buddy Bill comes over every 4-6 months and re-sets my crappy kit. Takes him 15 minutes with his 2 wrenches flying like a ninja. And then another 15 to position the mics. And it sounds -marvelous...

This is a bit like those shows where the guy gives marriage counseling after 2 minutes with the hapless couple. But speaking of 'respect', I respectfully disagree with much of what you say. I won't argue the point further. I do appreciate and thank you for your help with my original topic. ---JC Sor...

Sorry you feel that way. I get 'Studio Etiquette'. I over-simplified the story and made myself look like a rube. But regardless... To -me- as a lowly musician... if it matters that much, the engineer/owner shouldn't rent the room out for open rehearsals during the times when the 'big band' is away. ...

I kid you not... I walk into their 'big room' last Tuesday. The band I'm with wanted to rehearse and this was the only empty room. A fully mic'd kit is there. I move one of the boom mics about 4" to the left because it was over a shelf where I wanted to put my coffee. The other band members are -gap...

This sounds really prissy, but I'm -done- with setting up most -anything-. Maybe it's middle-age ADHD. But I get an idea, if it takes me more than 5 minutes to get it down, I go do something else. So I leave the kit set up. I spent a -ton- of time getting it to sound as decent as it could. Now I'm l...

Why does this feel like one of those parties at my house where I go out for a few minutes, come back and... it's no longer my party. :D Anyhoo... this gives me a really good idea. The guy who designed my house had absolutely no sense for studio design. ;) So my 'recording rooms' are crappy bedrooms....

And what a sport it is. :D i'm just arguing for sport here btw... I think I'm pretty much in the whine cellar here so I'll sign off for now. About once a year I try to work on 'the room'. New drum heads. More 703 (Clouds of 703! Triangles of 703! More wood! Less wood!) The thing is: if I were just g...

More good ideas. Bigger hats. I've tuned -down- the snare. But I gotta say guys... And I hate to be accused of blasphemy... heresy... whatever. I think I'm committed to samples. I've become pretty enamoured of Roland VDrums. I'm just sick of fighting the room. The truth is this: The biggest musical ...

I just saw this and wanted to add... The problem with ProTools, and DAWs in general, is as you said, processing after the fact. I like trying to get the sound right then and there. Otherwise it is just a big circle jerk of pomposity with the endless choices of plug ins. I'd rather bleach my eyes out...
