Hey there,

I also have been re-ribboning microphones for people lately, so looks like there are a few more options opening up for people

I'm also a 700 degree person, except for soldering to the current crop of dpdt mini toggles. Too much heat and the pins start to move, which will totally hose the switch.

Turn down to 550 or so for those, and happy day.

that footage is great. Either/Or is one of my favorite records of all time. It's funny how you end up appreciating music for different reasons. I like a great production of a record as much as the next guy, but for Elliot Smith, the songs and peformances are just so awesome, he could have recorded i...

Eddie Kramer used the M160 on Hendrix's guitar cab all of the time, and it gets a better acoustic guitar sound than the one Shineybox I've heard, without the fancy pants tranny. Never used either on drums. I would also venture to say that more care was given to tuning the ribbon in the M160 than th...

If you're just needing pads, I'd just buy or wire up a couple of external pads, rather than punching holes in the box to add another switch =)

or even better yet, send it to BEYERDYNAMIC. they have a factory repair shop in upstate NY. i just sent them a broken 160, they'll return it to me w ORIGINAL fresh innards. enak is brilliant but when the original manufacturer is available to restore w original parts, it's a no brainer. I'd second t...

I can't comment as to sound differences old vs. new, but buying old ribbon mics without the plan of having the ribbon checked/replaced is definately dicey. Often ribbon microphones will still pass signal, but the ribbon can be stretched beyond belief, meaning the microphone is not performing "as new...

Built 4 pairs of microphones, put my BA71's in the rack, did my quarterly taxes, sorted all of 2005 tax crap into piles, took some new product photos, and played Lego Star Wars(Xbox) with my kids. Tried to slepp, but instead stressed about how much shit I had to get done on the 30th .

Phil,

I'm with ya.

You order the right part when you are working on a clients board.

If it's yur own, sure, you do what works, and live with it, even if it's an eyesore, but not when someone is payin the bill for it....
