I don't think you will get anything out of rebuilding the power supply. You haven't mentioned whether it hums in any other setup, but it probably doesn't, right? Does the EQ have a 3 prong or 2 prong end on its AC cord? If it's in an effects loop there's alway a chance for ground loop hum. The shiel...

I've had maybe 5 AG-440's over the years, but I've never restored one. That's because they always work. They're good sounding machines.

This is quite simply just bad design, see the "huminator" http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=61411 pretty much same circuit. There are ample ways to get clean dc power without all the problems of this method. Using a higher voltage dc supply with a regulator is the easiest I can think o...

I hate to shoot down someone else's idea, but an inductor in the uH range, even 1000uH (1mH) is probably much to small do anything useful at 120 Hz if it's hum that the wall wart is giving you. If for some reason the wall wart makes hissy broadband noise then maybe it will help a bit, but I think un...

I just want to be clear that the series thing isn't guaranteed to be a better idea. If you think the LED's will be off more often than they'll be on then you should just leave it the way it is with the LED's in parallel and current completely shut off when an LED is off. If you think more often than...

The thing is that each LED is an indicator for a given function attached to a single switch. ie: each LED has it's own on/off switch. Can't wire that up in series. Sure you can. I even drew you a picture: http://home.earthlink.net/~nwc4396/seriesled.jpg Well.....I'm assuming you're using DPDT switc...

Hi. Looks like a number of your problems have been addressed here. I didn't fully read the thread, but in case no one else already has, let me suggest you might want to run your LED's in series to the extent you can. If they have a 3 volt forward drop, you can definitely run 2 from a 9 volt supply. ...

do you mean G's sound better? or just the hum does? I was in Sydney last year this time and noticed the lights felt so much different going at 50hz... i could feel the power cycles in the light... 50hz is a G sharp 30 cents 60hz is a B - flat 49 cents how does this affect everything harmonically? W...

I agree with RodC, I think it's a headphone box. Speaker level goes in through the wire, headphone level goes out through the 1/4 jack. The impedances look right for this kind of thing and also the unshielded pair going in looks like the kind of wire people used for speakers a lot 30-40 years ago.

Yes. In england the hum plays at a G, which is an amazing note. In north america the hum plays at an A sharp which is a note that totally blows.

The aluminum tweeters are a bit zippy, that did create listening fatigue after several hours. Was there a version of 4311b with aluminum tweeters? I thought they were all paper. If your tweeters aren't aluminum but paper, I might have a spare set. I've had a few but sold some on ebay myself, I'm ju...

Hi. If you're running it into only speaker right now, then yes, you can get more out of it if you bridge it. If you do try to run it bridged, each half of the amp will be seeing 1/2 the impedance of the speaker, so you have to use a speaker that's twice the impedance of the minimum rating. If each s...

Here's another possibility....the 200 has the power switch on the volume knob right? Did the repairer just TELL you they were replacing the PT so they could charge you a lot of money, but then just replace the on/off switch and maybe use the wrong value of volume pot when they did it? Who knows? Unf...

When you turn up the volume all the way, is the amp JUST quiet or does it also sound like it's distorting a lot more than usual? If the transformer was making a low voltage it would limit the total output power, but the gain of the amp would probably be pretty much the same. In other words, as you t...

If you want more gain and nastiness before the master volume then by all means do the post phase inverter master. One problem though is that the master volume is inside the feedback loop. That means when you turn the master volume down you lose tons of negative feedback. Your instinct might be that ...
