Have you tried listening to your mix without the sub on? I have the BX5's as well, but with no sub. I was definitely hearing a lack of lower mids through the same monitors, but I think the performance is good.

Take the side off with the latch in the back of it. Then take off the clear plastic shield on the lower part of the open G5. Take compressed air, and blast the grate from the inside out. While you are at it, wipe down that clear plastic shield. It gets dusty too.

Have you tried any other firewire devices? Is the drive not showing up in the system profiler under the firewire section?
